Student Services Update
- Bathroom Passes (via 5-Star) will now last 6 (SIX) minutes - the same time as the standard passing period between classes. Bathroom passes should only be used to go to the restroom and return to class. Students frequently found out of class without a pass or on an expired hall pass will be assigned school consequences.
- 5-Star Digital Student ID can be used as an alternate Student ID Card - students can exit campus for short day/athletics using the 5-Star app. This Digital ID card will be used for checking in to school events such as dances, lunch detention, and Saturday Schools.
Student Conduct Guidance 24-25
- Student Attendance: Students who arrive late to class after the bell rings for each period are tardy. There is a 6-minute passing period to move from class to class. Students who earn 4 tardies will be assigned a lunch detention. We appreciate parent support in encouraging students to be prompt and show up to classes on time!
- Student Conduct Guidelines 24-25: Outline of student behavior and consequences administered by Student Services (Discipline). Please take a moment to review school policies on the following topics:
- Attendance Policy
- Saturday School & Loss of Activities
- Lunch Detention
- Campus Deliveries
- Dress Code
- Student Parking
Click Here to Review Student Conduct Guidelines 24-25
- Attendance: Parents must call or deliver a note to the Attendance Office within 72 hours to clear a student's absence. Students will be held accountable for their attendance through lunch detentions or Saturday School for unexcused absences. If a student is absent from school, they must provide an excuse for an absence (Illness, Personal, Medical Appointment, etc.). Calls to attendance can be made to (714) 532-8020.

VPHS Library Hosts 3rd Annual Author Festival
On Wednesday, the VPHS Book Club held our 3rd annual Author Festival. This event welcomed seven award-winning authors of books for teens to our campus to discuss writing, publishing, and their favorite books with over 150 VP students, as well as CVMS book club students who walked over to join the fun. YA authors Katy Upperman, Chelsea Ichaso, Adam Sass, Aminah Mae Safi, Clare Osongco, Kathryn Rose, and Veronica Bane had a lively panel discussion with VP librarian Mrs. Kim, who is a YA author herself, about all things writing and books, and after the discussion students were encouraged to ask questions, talk one-on-one with the authors, and have their books signed.
The Friends of the Villa Park Library generously donated 50 books to the Author Festival to be given away to student attendees, and Barnes & Noble provided book sales, so students (and teachers!) were able to win and purchase books to get signed by the authors. And a huge thank you to our PFSO for providing coffee and lunch to our author guests.
This is our 3rd year bringing incredible writing and publishing talent to the VPHS campus to talk to our students about books and writing, and we are excited to keep this extremely special event going for years to come.

Dallas Rojas Reviews Honor Biology
Written by Abigail Tolliver
Dallas Rojas is a 9th-grade student who is taking Biology Honors with Mr. Hunt. This class stands out because of its engaging videos, the chance to earn participation credit, and Mr. Hunt’s ability to teach effectively while being a great person. Right now, they are studying the 10 phyla and their different inhabitants. One key takeaway for Dallas throughout the year has been that a gene is a segment of DNA responsible for coding a protein, or polypeptide. He would recommend this class to others, but only if they are ready to put in the effort and actively participate.
Avelyn Phan Review Honors Biology
Written by Abigail Tolliver
Avelyn Phan, a 9th-grade student, is taking Biology Honors with Mr. Hunt. She appreciates how engaging and interactive the class is, as Mr. Hunt encourages everyone to participate while making learning enjoyable. Currently, they are studying the 10 phyla, and one key fact that has stuck with Avelyn since beginning this class is that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. She would definitely recommend this class because it builds useful skills and provides a strong foundation for AP Biology and otherwise high school and college courses.
