Spring Term - 9th May 2024
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers
On Wednesday this week, we welcomed a film crew to HJS who were recording an advert for the Times online. This included shooting the front of the school building and turning the Honeycomb into a doctor's surgery. There were nearly 40 crew members on site but the day ran smoothly and I am very proud to hear many positive comments from the team about the children and staff. Once the advert is finalised we will share this with parents as it is exciting to see our beautiful school on screen!
As the spring weather starts to be more favourable, it is wonderful to see our new gardening team working on the allotments on the green area. We have an enthusiastic group of pupils who are keen to learn more about gardening, growing fruit and vegetables and get the most out of this plot. A huge thank you to Miss Bienge and Miss Goddard for leading on this initiative and a special thanks to Mr Edbrooke who has volunteered his time, weekly, to help us learn and make the most of this area.
Next week sees our lovely year 6 children show us academically what they are made of by completing their national examinations - SATs! They have all worked incredibly hard towards these exams and I am sure that they will all do their very best and make all of us incredibly proud. As with all tests, it is important that they do a bit of last minute revision, get a good night's sleep and arrive at school on time, having had a good breakfast. Parents please support us with these last few points.
As the weather hopefully continues to shine, please remember to send your child into school with a plain sunhat / cap and also put suncream on prior to attending school. As a quick reminder, sun glasses are not permitted at school and do not form part of the school uniform.
Enjoy your weekend.
Mr Jon James

Message from the Miss Smith
The book fair will be returning the week beginning 10th June, with sales after school in the Rose Hall on 12th, 13th and 14th. Children will have the opportunity earlier in the week to visit the book fair with their class, allowing them to see what book titles are available.
There will be offers available on the titles, such as 3 for 2. We are looking for 5 lucky winners to obtain a £5 book voucher which they can use at the book fair. The competition will be a postcard from your favourite book character. There is a blank section for you to draw a picture: your character, a scene from the book or a scene from where you are writing the postcard from.
Please see Miss Smith, Miss Miah or Mrs Gregory to obtain a blank copy of the postcard, there is a copy below you will be able to print at home if you would prefer. The competition will end on Monday 3rd June, please hand them to your class teacher.
HJS Sporting Achievements
In an electrifying display of skill and determination, HJS boys football team triumphed in the semi-final match, securing a hard-fought victory with a scoreline of 2-1. The boys showcased their dedication and teamwork on the field. This triumphant win not only propels our team into the finals but also stands as a testament to their resilience and passion for the sport. Congratulations to our remarkable athletes for their outstanding performance!
HJS Music Achievers
Congratulations to Inaya in year 6 who has just taken her grade 1 piano exam and achieved a distinction. She has been having lessons for the past few years with former HJS pupil Luke. Well done Inaya.
Year 6 News
6L enjoyed their trip to Kingston Mosque earlier this week. We learned so much!
6GF did really well in Science this week. We were solving problems (using light sources and mirrors) to see how the light could be reflected around opaque objects.
