Principal's Corner
This past week Old Town hosted ten administrators from across the state of Texas. The Texas Association of Bilingual Education joined us for a full day of learning. Old Town Elementary was selected by our district as one of two showcase campuses for the association’s conference that was held just up the road at the Kalahari. Our TABE guests learned about our bilingual program and the wonderful work that our amazing teachers do to support students in the bilingual program. We are so proud that RRISD selected our campus to spotlight the district.
Trunk or Treat is Friday! We are still feeding our Trunk or Treat monsters with candy to make the event an awesome one for our students. It’s not too late to help out and send in a candy donation. If you can’t make arrival or dismissal, feel free to drop it off in the front office and we will get it right where it needs to go. I hope to see many families at our Trunk or Treat event. This will take place from 5:30-7:30pm inside of Old Town.
Veterans Day Celebration Information
Old Town Elementary will be honoring Veterans the morning of November 11th.
We are inviting Veterans to enjoy a light breakfast in the cafeteria from 8:10am-8:30am
At 8:30am we invite all Veterans and families able to attend to enjoy the campus performance by the OTE choir honoring the service of our Veterans to our country.
All students are encouraged to dress in red, white, and blue, camo, or military shirt on November 11th.
Are you wanting to honor a Veteran that you know? In this Thursday’s folders students have been given a star template to decorate in honor of their Veteran. We will place these stars on a Wall of Fame in a central location of the school. Stars are due on November 6th to the front office.
***Please note that all visitors attending the Veterans Day Celebration will be asked to badge in using our RAPTOR system.
EARLY PICKUP PROCEDURES:
If a student needs to be released early from school for an appointment, we kindly ask that parents/guardians come to the front office intercom with a Photo ID to check the student out.
If someone other than the parent/guardian will be picking up the student, let us help you with this request. The person picking up must be listed as one of the student’s emergency contacts. Parents/Guardians should email the school registrar (angie_castro@roundrockisd.org) at least 24 hours in advance to add any additional people to the emergency contacts. The email should specify the name and phone number of the person picking up.
If you need to pick up your student near the end of the day, students will be released no later than 2:30 p.m.
To preserve instructional time, students are called to the office once the parent arrives.
Parents/Guardians/Emergency Contact will need to bring a valid photo ID
Old Town begins dismissal for our pre-kinder students and students in special programming at 2:40 each day.
Our K-5 dismissal begins with our youngest Texans at 2:50.
We greatly appreciate your understanding in allowing a smooth dismissal for all students and families, these guidelines help all students remain safe during dismissal at Old Town.
PTA Trunk or Treat
It's time to sign up for a "trunk" space at our annual (indoor) PTA Trunk or Treat event this Friday, October 25th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. Sign up! The family with the BEST DECORATED "TRUNK" will win 4 wristbands to the OTE Spring Carnival!
PTA Reflections
We're excited to share that Reflections is quickly approaching! Reflections is an art program that gives our kids' little voices a big stage to tell their story. The beauty of this non-competitive program is that it allows our children to participate in many ways, including film production, literature, music composition, photography, dance choreography. This year’s Reflections theme is “Accepting Imperfection”. Entries are due OCTOBER 30 and can be dropped off in the front office.
Upcoming spirit night - Texas Stars
Book Character Dress Up Day will be on October 31st.
This is a day for students to come dressed in their favorite character from a book! Students need to bring a copy of the book with them to accompany their costume. PK and Kinder students will take a parade walk around the campus for students and teachers and then around the perimeter of the school for parents to see them and snap some pics! The PK/Kinder parade will begin at 8:00 a.m. Parents may park and stand along the side parking lots (by the blacktop and/or the side by the Plantation neighborhood). We ask that you do not stand along the front driveway as we may have students still getting dropped off for school. As always, the back circle drive is reserved for staff member parking only. Due to the safety of all students and everyone needing to be signed in through Raptor, parents will not be able to come inside to see the parade. Thank you for understanding! Should we need to adjust our plans due to weather we will communicate through a special eNews and our Remind App.
See below for appropriate attire and/or banned items for Book Character Dress Up Day!
