A MESSAGE FROM MRS. CAUDILL
Monday was the best day (I say that a lot I know 😂😂). Even though I did not get to see the totality like so many of our students did. What I got to experience on Monday was just as magical. Our students, equipped with safe viewing glasses, looked towards the sky in wonder and amazement. You could hear the excitement, with students eagerly discussing the phases of the eclipse, sharing their observations, and asking insightful questions. Our teachers turned this natural phenomenon into an real-life learning experience, explaining the science behind eclipses.
I am sure your Bobcat came home talking all about it. I know I did - core memory unlocked! Check out these amazing pictures that don't do this event justice.

PARENT BOOKCLUB
Good Inside: A Guide to Becoming the Parent You Want to Be
I am so very excited to announce our third annual Book Club for Parents. I am also excited to announce that this year our Book Club will be done across all six elementary buildings! The elementary principals have been reading this amazing book called, Good Inside. In Good Inside, Dr. Becky Kennedy—known to her followers as “Dr. Becky” shares her parenting philosophy, complete with actionable strategies, that will help parents move from uncertainty and self-blame to confidence and sturdy leadership.
There are so many things as a parents that we have used, that just don't seem to work. From reward charts to time outs, many popular parenting approaches are based on shaping behavior, not raising humans. These techniques don’t build the skills kids need for life, or account for their complex emotional needs. Add to that parents’ complicated relationships with their own upbringings, and it’s easy to see why so many caretakers feel lost, burned out, and worried they’re failing their kids.
Offering perspective-shifting parenting principles and troubleshooting for specific scenarios—including sibling rivalry, separation anxiety, tantrums, and more—Good Inside is a comprehensive resource for a generation of parents looking for a new way to raise their kids while still setting them up for a lifetime of self-regulation, confidence, and resilience.
The Book Club meeting will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 6:30pm. We will be meeting in the Ridge Wood Elementary Library. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join us to enjoy some lively conversation about this book. You are welcome to attend if you read the whole book, some of the book or even skimmed the book.
Check out the book on Amazon here.
3RD - 5TH GRADE M-STEP TESTING AND SMARTWATCHES
As we head into our state testing season, we just wanted to remind you about our cell phone and smartwatch policy. Per District policy, cell phones may NOT be turned on during school hours. They must remain in the student’s backpack. Smartwatches may only be used for telling time, but they may not be worn when students are taking the state (M-STEP) exam. Your child’s teacher will share the days/times that students will be taking the M-STEP exam. We recommend that students do not wear smartwatches on testing days. Classroom teachers will hold all smartwatches until the testing session is complete.
Please note that students who violate the cell phone and smartwatch policy will lose their device. Parents will be asked to pick up the device at the end of the school day.

Student Enrichment Committee Needed for Next Year!
We've had some amazing assemblies and guest authors this year, coordinated by our Student Enrichment Chair. Our Chair's student is moving on to middle school, so we are in need of someone to take over for next school year! This committee:
- Coordinates with the PTA Board and school leadership to find and schedule experiences
- Ensures that spend and experiences per grade are fair
- Adheres to the assigned budget passed by PTA members for assemblies, experiences and field trips
As you can imagine, this is a very important committee that is in need of help! We would like to get this position filled this school year so that you can work with the current Chair to learn the ropes. If you are interested in learning more, please email Board@amermanpta.com.

Sharpen the Saw!
We will be working on Habit 7 During the Month of April
What this means: Balance is Best. Seek continuous improvement and renewal professionally and personally.
Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have–you. It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual. Here are some examples of activities:
Physical: Beneficial eating, exercising, and resting
Social/Emotional: Making social and meaningful connections with others
Mental: Learning, reading, writing, and teaching
Spiritual: Spending time in nature, expanding spiritual self through meditation, music, art, or service
What I can do:
- I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting enough sleep
