Meet Newton Collins
The story of the man our school is named after is a fascinating and inspiring one! This is a great story to share with your family.
Our librarian, Ms. Amy arranges visits with the family of Newton Collins for our students each year as well.
You can read his story here.
Afternoon Dismissal
If you are going to change how your child goes home, please communicate this with the front office by 2:00PM (1:00PM on Fridays).
If you are going to pick your child up early from school, please do this before 2:30PM (1:30PM on Fridays). To ensure our student's safety during dismissal, we will not pull students from classrooms after 2:30PM.
Please note, we have had an influx of parents walking up to the front office at dismissal who are requesting a pink car pickup sign and requesting their child be dismissed to them. We are extremely strict during our dismissal process to ensure that all students get home safely. Parents walking up to the office to request a pink car pickup sign may need to wait until our office staff can safely identify and communicate with the staff member over car dismissal about the change. This is considered a late transportation change which impacts our dismissal procedures and student safety. We appreciate your patience as we prioritize student safety.
Teacher Communication
Classroom teacher's first priority during the school day is instruction in the classroom. They check direct messages throughout the day and at their planning time, but may not be able to respond immediately.
I've asked teachers to return parent communication within 24 hours. If you have urgent information to share with the teacher, please communicate through the front office.
Volunteering! It Takes a Village
Parent and community volunteers are integral to our school’s success. There are many ways for you to get involved in our community. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the form below. We look forward to hearing from you!
All on-campus volunteers and parent chaperones for field trips MUST complete a background check and volunteer application. This takes awhile to process so complete yours now!

Title 1 Parent Information
As a parent of a student at Collins Elementary, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers and teacher assistants who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child’s classroom teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner if you ask for it. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child’s classroom teaching staff:
Whether the State of Texas has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
Whether the State of Texas has decided that the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.
The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees.
Whether any teachers’ aides or similar paraprofessionals provide services to your child, and if they do, their qualifications.
If you would like to receive any of this information, please contact Ashley Fredo, Principal at 512-386-3900 or ashley.aretakisf@dvisd.net

Roo Store Wishlist
We are excited to launch our Roo Store for the 22-23 school year! Our Roo Store is run by several of our student leaders and visits your child's classroom every 2 weeks. Students use their hard-earned Liveschool points to purchase prizes and campus coupons. We purchase items for our store, and we are always accepting donations! We have included some student requested items on our Amazon wish list. If you or someone you know is able to donate to our store, we would greatly appreciate the support!
