EL Student of the Month
Each month, Mrs. Baughman and Mrs. Tijerina choose an EL student of the month based on grades, improvement, attitude, effort, attendance, and behavior. The student receives a class acknowledgment, a bar of chocolate, a certificate (for home and the hallway), and a message to parents about the award.
Our September recipient is Madelin Martinez. Congratulations, Madelin!
Piano Lessons
Dr. Liz Felsted, choir accompanist at GJHS, is offering after-school piano lessons for students interested in developing their musical skills, whether they’re beginners or have some experience. Lessons will be once a week from 4:00-4:30 PM, at $20 per session. We will cover piano basics like scales, hand positioning, and reading music. Dr. Felsted is also happy to incorporate any songs or styles students enjoy to personalize their learning. If you are interested or have any questions, feel free to contact Dr. Felsted by phone or email.

8th Grade Colorado Trip!
The P.E. in the Rockies backpacking trip is an elective summer course/trip offered to a maximum of 20 8th grade students who complete the school year in good standing. Students are selected based on teacher/counselor/principal recommendation and approval and should NOT have serious behavioral referrals.
Students will meet for three six-hour classroom sessions in April/May and then participate in a fifteen-day sightseeing and backpacking trip to Colorado in July. Dates are still to be determined. Those who complete the classroom experience are able to earn one high school Physical Education credit.
The trip portion of the course includes visits to Colorado Springs (Garden of the Gods), Great Sand Dunes National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Telluride, the Mt. Sneffels Wilderness Area, the Ouray Hot Springs & whitewater rafting on the Colorado River. Students tent camp along the way, sharing a tent and camping equipment with a partner they have selected from the group. The trip culminates in a five-day wilderness experience during which students hike, explore and put into practice the wilderness skills they have learned in the classroom.
The cost of the trip is $500.00
The application process will begin in February, and information will be pushed out in students’ science classes.
If you have questions, please email Ana Medina Kaufman at akaufman@goshenschools.org and/or Matthew Katzer at mkatzer@goshenschools.org.

Attendance Matters!
At GJH, our goal is for every student to have at least 94% attendance. This means students should not be absent more than 10 days during the school year (excused or unexcused). Every day at school is an opportunity for your child to learn and have experiences that contribute to academic and personal growth.
When a student misses 4 or more days of school, a letter is sent to parents to make sure they are aware of the absences. After 7 absences, another letter is sent and a staff member may contact the parent to schedule a meeting and/or discuss how can support the student with attendance.
If you have concerns about your child's attendance, don't hesitate one of our administrators or school counselors.
Goshen Public Library - October Teen Events
See the flyer for teen events to be held at Goshen Public Library this month!
Dress Code
Our goal is to help students understand and evaluate appropriate settings for formal vs. informal attire, which is a skill they will use in the world beyond school. Students will see this addressed starting on the first day of school.
We appreciate parents working with us on this. If you have questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact an administrator.
