The Nanuet News
June 2024
Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Nanuet School Community!
And just like that... the school year draws to a close.
It’s been an incredible year for our students and staff and we are grateful for your partnership and support. From cheering on our students at athletic competitions, to attending art shows, to musical and theater productions to passing our annual budget, you have been central to our success. We are very grateful for all that you do. We hope that you enjoy this last edition of The Nanuet News as we celebrate all of our end-of-year activities and congratulate our students who are “moving up” to new buildings.
We especially congratulate and extend our best wishes to our seniors as they leave our high school to begin their post-secondary plans – college, service to our country, the trades and other avenues for pursuing their dreams.
On behalf of all of us in your Nanuet Schools family, best wishes for a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Lisa Brady, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Class of 2024
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! Under a clear blue sky, nearly 200 Seniors donned their cap and gowns at the Nanuet Senior High School Commencement Ceremony held on June 25. "No matter what it took to get to this moment, you have made it,” class Salutatorian Dahlia Kordit told her classmates gathered at Clover Stadium. "Take a moment to reflect on your time.” Reflect on the graduates by checking out our Facebook post.
Senior Awards Ceremony
The Senior Awards assembly was held at the end of May, celebrating the various achievements of the Nanuet Senior High School Class of 2024. In the presence of the Board of Education, administration, their peers and families, students were recognized and honored for excelling in academics, athletics, community, character and resolve. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our donors, over seventy-five different types of scholarships and grants were bestowed upon the students.
Music Department Awards
Music to our ears! Nanuet Senior High School musicians were celebrated earlier this month during the annual Music Department Awards. Students were recognized for their various achievements and contributions to the school's thriving music program. Director of Music (K-12) Mark Skaba and company sang everyone's praises before presenting the final honor, Musician of the Year, to Nanuet Senior High School Junior Maren Savino (Viola). See photos here.
Eighth Grade Moving Up
The Moving Up Ceremony, held at Clover Stadium on June 24, celebrated the 190 eighth graders on their way to Nanuet Senior High School next year. "When faced with new opportunities don’t look for the easiest path,“ Barr Principal Michelle O’Sullivan told students. “Embrace challenges, ask questions and step out of your comfort zone.“ Take a look at photos in our Facebook post.
Academic Excellence Awards
A. MacArthur Barr Middle School celebrated the accomplishments of 68 eighth graders during the annual Academic Excellence Awards held at the start of June. Recognition is given to those who have achieved either high honor roll for the first three quarters or maintained an overall GPA of at least 94 for the year. Making this night extra-special was the involvement of the eighth grade class.
Musician of the Year
Emma Ng is the 2024 A. Mac Arthur Barr Middle School Musician of the Year! The award is given annually to a student who demonstrates a high level of musical involvement in their school and community. Emma's teachers: Keilah Ussi, Tracy Dobelle, Melanie Sadoff and Nurkit Lucksom called Ng a talented musician who is "a compassionate and respectful person, and exemplifies what it means to be a mindful and musical Golden Knight."
Moving Up to Middle School
Next stop - middle school! Congratulations to the Highview Elementary Class of 2024! 158 fourth graders were celebrated this month during the school’s Moving Up Ceremony, held at the Nanuet Senior High School Auditorium. “Dazzle your teachers, next year,“ Principal Matthew Lutz encouraged students. “As you rise up, I want you to think about who you will eventually become when you finish eighth grade.“ See photos here.
Second Grade > Third Grade
These Golden Knights are on their way to Highview! The George W. Miller second grade class walked the halls of their school like the rock stars they are, during this month's annual clapout. Faculty, staff and students lined the hallways to cheer on these future third graders before they exited the school and made their way on to the field where family and friends were excitedly awaiting their arrival.
