News of the Week
VVSD Spotlight- Brian Simik, Physical Education Teacher, Lukancic Middle School
Our week began with Veterans’ Day, a day upon which we honor all those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We close the week with a visit with one of our many VVSD staff members who are proud to call themselves veterans.
Prior to becoming a Lukancic Middle School Physical Education Teacher, Brian Simik was a 19-year-old recent graduate of Romeoville HS attending college. Brian decided that to set himself up for success, he needed the challenge of military training. So, he began a journey that led to becoming an infantry medic in the Army National Guard.
VVSD Hiring Now for 2024-25 School Year
VVSD is still hiring for a wide range of positions for the 2024-25 school year with an emphasis on adding to our teams of paraprofessionals, lunchroom/playground aides and special education teachers.
We are also seeking new team members including guest teachers, bus drivers, operations & maintenance, nutrition services, and special education staff.
VVSD’s employment opportunities offer schedules for staff members that are in synchronization with school schedules, making VVSD a great choice for parents who need to have their work schedule match up with the school hours, and Winter and Spring Break for their children. Fall is Theatre Season in Valley View!
Lukancic Middle School Drama Club Presents “The Bully Plays”
"The Bully Plays" is a collection of short plays that deals with the serious problem of bullying in schools and communities. This anthology was created to help people understand and talk about bullying in a creative way. It includes eight different 10-minute plays that cover all kinds of emotions and situations related to bullying. Some of the plays are sad and touching, while others use imagination to explore the topic.
There are also powerful stories that make you think, uplifting moments that give you hope, and even some funny parts to keep things interesting. The anthology tries to inspire people to stand up against bullying and find ways to prevent it. It's not just about showing the problem, but also about finding solutions and encouraging positive change in our schools and communities.

Seen Around Valley View- Veterans' Day Edition
US Marine Corps Vet Victoria Cobbett thanks Tibbott Elementary students for inviting her to the Tibbott Veterans' Day assembly. Victoria provided computer support from 1970-73 during the Vietnam War. Victoria told us that computer science was so new to our culture at that time, that when she was home on leave, she was playing a family game of Scrabble, and her fellow competitors vetoed her use of the word “byte” claiming it was not actually a word!
The Bolingbrook HS United States Air Force JROTC presents the colors prior to the annual Oak View Elementary School Veterans’ Breakfast. The Oak View Vets’ Breakfast is one of the longest running traditions in VVSD, stretching back over 40 years.
Another VVSD Veterans’ Day tradition is the Veterans’ Day Brunch for the veterans who are also members of VVSD transportation. VVSD Transportation Director (at right) hosted this year’s brunch at Bee Brothers in Romeoville.
