Worthington Academy Family Update

Principal's Note
Hello Academy Families,
Each year, a collection of our students run for a position on our Student Advisory Board. This week, that elected board had our first meeting. This board represents the voice of our students in the planning and evolution of our school. They work together to solve problems, suggest ideas for improving the culture at Worthington Academy, and plan fun community-building events. All students are invited to join these meetings alongside our board, and we had great participation this first week.
Our main takeaway at this first meeting was the importance of collaboration. For example, our students are working on planning a Halloween Party at the end of October. While they would love to have an array of snacks and candy, it would be too much for a couple of students to provide this for the entire school. If many students contribute a small amount, however, everyone will benefit.
This active membership in a community is a great lesson for our students, and one that we don't sugarcoat as a staff. We've had times in the past where the students did not follow through on their plans and were left disappointed in the outcome. We've also had many successful events planned entirely by the students. Either way, our students learn the power of collaboration and the importance of following through with promises. I'm looking forward to the work of this year's Student Advisory Board and can't wait to see what they create.
Be good to one another,
Dr. Flynn

Announcements
Be sure you receive email from Worthington Schools!
Worthington Schools is planning a change in how our Infinite Campus email is delivered. We plan to make the change before the end of this calendar year.
Prior to the change, all parents of students in Worthington Schools should view the brief parent guide linked below to ensure that emails continue to get delivered to your email inbox.
Elimination of Annual School Fees
The Board of Education unanimously voted to eliminate classroom consumable fees beginning with the 2024-25 school year. Therefore those fees will not be in My Payments Plus for parents to pay during open houses or schedule pickup as in years past.
If a child is participating in extracurricular activities, renting an instrument, or wanting to purchase a high school parking pass, those will still be available in My Payments Plus once the school year and season gets under way. Senior graduation fees will still be owed.
You may read this blog post about the change.

He is a vegetarian (no eggs). His interests include ping pong, gaming, art, listening to music, and cooking! The student is attending Worthington Kilbourne High School. The commitment is approximately 3-4 months. The student will likely move from the first host family to the second in late November or December. The move to the third host family will likely take place around March.
