October 15th-22nd SNYM News
Welcome to the St. Nick's Youth Ministry Weekly Update
Please consider sharing these weekly newsletters with your Youth.
My hope is this may encourage them to tell you more about what is shown here, but from their individual perspectives.
And, perhaps it will inspire others to join us! -Beth
*Please let me know if your Youth would like to be added to the Flocknote list to receive SNYM News via text.*

MIDDLE SCHOOL/ EDGE GROUP
RECAP FOR OCT. 15
We began class explaining that RE attends Adoration monthly, and that we will follow that schedule. We then prepared for Adoration by discussing what it is and what we do (video linked below photos).
We continued with how we attend with reverence in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. We then discussed ways to help us communicate with Jesus, and each student received a Prayer Journal. (example in photos below)
We explained that these Prayer Journals are for their individual thoughts and prayers, and will remain private by being stored safely in the Youth Room closet to be used each month (students will receive these to take home at the end of the RE year).
We then attended Adoration as a class, led by Deacon Ron.
We returned to the Youth Room for a round of Simon Says... Catholic Style! (see photo below)
Then we started our second session of Symbolon, Divine Revelation.
We learned how the 'Keys of the Kingdom' given from Jesus to Peter was the beginning of the Popes and Bishops of the Church. And, that Bishop Maekawa was chosen to lead our Diocese!
We also learned the difference between Sacred Tradition (oral) and Sacred Scripture (written), but how we need BOTH to follow the Word of God.
Deacon Ron explains vestments and Adoration.

RECAP FOR OCT. 15
We began class explaining that RE attends Adoration monthly, and that we will follow that schedule. We then prepared for Adoration by discussing what it is and what we do (video linked above in EDGE Recap).
We continued with how we attend with reverence in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. We then discussed ways to help us communicate with Jesus, and each teen received a Prayer Journal. (example photos above in EDGE Recap)
We explained that these Prayer Journals are for their individual thoughts and prayers, and will remain private by being stored safely in the Youth Room closet to be used each month (students will receive these to take home at the end of the RE year).
We then attended Adoration as a group, led by Father Welcome, with Connor & Solomon as Alter Servers.
After that we played the Chair Game in the Social Hall! (photos below)
We then returned to the Youth Room to learn more about St. Teresa of Avila with a video (started at 4:07 and ended at 19:34; linked below photos), discussed her devotion to a life of prayer and how her example & intercession can improve ours.
We ended with playing Pictionary using facts from the video and some QFT! *Quality Friend Time*
COMING UP ON OCT. 22
The HSYG voted to have a PUMPKIN PAINTING POTLUCK this Sunday!
We will meet in the Social Hall.
Each teen needs to bring one small pumpkin (no gourds) to decorate AND a dish to share.
Stencils will be available (like the ones in the border surrounding this newsletter), along with paint supplies and markers.
We will have a few craft pumpkins (for those who would like to carve them) that will be used as decor at the All Saints Celebration.
Because it is his feast day, we will be learning about St. Pope John Paul II.
