The FMS Newsletter #5
December 1st, 2024
Dear Faribault Middle School Families,
Over the past couple of weeks, we have noticed a slight increase in classroom disruptions and disrespectful behaviors directed toward our teachers, support staff, guest teachers, and even between students. While we are proud of the positive strides we’ve made this year, these behaviors are concerning, and we want to address them promptly.
We ask for your support in reinforcing the importance of respect, kindness, and accountability with your child at home. Together, we can help create a positive and productive learning environment where every student and staff member feels valued and supported. Your partnership is crucial in making Faribault Middle School the best it can be.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Your Administration Team

S.O.A.R. Assembly
We are so excited to celebrate our first positive recognition assembly, where we came together to celebrate the many amazing students in our building. This is a time to highlight your accomplishments, hard work, and the great character you demonstrate every day. Did you know that 92% of our students have never been referred to Student Service. That’s awesome and we want to celebrate you for being Safe, On Task, Accountable, and Respectful!
One of today’s highlights is recognizing our Students of the Month—an honor that comes from being nominated by your teachers. This recognition celebrates students who consistently go above and beyond in academics, behavior, and leadership. These students have or will receive their certificates from Mr. Molitor, as he loves to celebrate these awesome students!
We’ll also celebrate those on the Honor Roll, a reflection of your commitment to learning and striving to be your best. You’ve made us so proud, and your efforts do not go unnoticed! Here’s a number for you…154 students or 24.2% are on the B Honor Roll. 210 students or 33% are on the A Honor Roll. That’s a total of 57.2% of our students, over half that have GPA’s over 3.0. Please stand!!!
Another important recognition is the Freddy Award, which is given to students who show exceptional character, kindness, and respect. Being a person of great character is an achievement we value and admire.
We also want to take a moment to thank and celebrate our Teachers of the Month, who are dedicated, hardworking, and committed to making a difference every day. We are so grateful for their passion and the positive impact they have on our students and school community.
Finally, we’ll conclude with our SOAR Drawing, where students earn recognition simply by demonstrating what it means to SOAR: being Safe, On Task, Accountable, and Respectful. Each of you contributes to our school’s positive culture by embracing these values, and we are so proud to celebrate you today.
Our winners for the 1st drawing:
A Romel Contento Japon
B Lucas Davidson
C Naima Abdi
D Harmony Davis
Let’s take this time to enjoy and celebrate all the incredible people in our school community. Thank you for being part of what makes Faribault Middle School such a special place!

Falcon Flex Days (aka snow days)
Hello FMS families!
While it seems like Minnesota has lost its edge, winter weather will (probably) be here soon. When weather and/or other disasters make school in-person unsafe, we want to continue to provide learning opportunities for our students. When these days hit, we are faced with two scenarios: one in which we foresaw the poor weather and could plan for a Falcon Flex Day and the other in which we are taken by surprise (e.g. the tornado of 2018). The following is the plan for the two scenarios that may occur.
“Surprise” school closure “Planned” school closure Next week, students will be sent home with paper copies with a chart of assignments. They are also attached to this message. There will be three different charts per grade. An “A”, “B”, and “C” chart. This will allow us to have a chart for multiple days in case we have more than one “surprise!” day. I will communicate which chart to use once I learn that we are closing school that day. Students will complete the assignments only for the classes they are currently enrolled (e.g. if a student is not in Art, they would not complete Ms. Canfield’s assignment). When your student has completed the chart, please sign it Students will show the chart to each teacher throughout the day for attendance. They will turn it in to their 7th hour teacher. Teachers will be available via online and/or by phone. They will communicate with you their preferred method of communication via Parent Square. If we feel there is a *chance* weather will make coming to school unsafe for students, each teacher will send home a “paper and pencil” assignment. Students will complete the assignments and bring them to the next school day. They will turn in each task to the teacher who assigned it (e.g. turn in ELA assignment to ELA teacher) Completion of the assignment will count toward the students’ attendance for the day. Teachers will be available via online and/or by phone. They will communicate with you their preferred method of communication via Parent Square.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding our plan for flexible learning. We’ll see what nature brings us in the next couple of months!
