Thank you for your partnership with this smooth transition back to school. Your patience and support is greatly appreciated as the daily routines of the new school year begins. Due to an increase of enrollment our traffic has increased around our school. We would like to ask for your assistance to keep traffic flowing as efficiently as possible. Our support staff will do their best to direct you to keep traffic flowing and ask that you follow their directions. If you drop off or pick up your student on campus, please follow our student drop-off and pick-up procedures. We would like to keep traffic moving as much as possible and ask for your help. Please do not make a left turn when exiting the school. In addition, vehicles that are parked on side streets and/or parking alongside the curb of Campbell Ave when signs are posted as “No Parking ” zones impact the flow of traffic, holding up cars from leaving our campus efficiently. Following our student drop-off and pick-up procedures will help with our students’ safety.

A reminder, students are not allowed on campus until 8:10 am.
NJHS Nominations due September 6th
NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) Club is accepting applications from 7th and 8th graders now through September 6th. Students who want to learn more about leadership skills and helping our school community thrive are encouraged to apply. In the NJHS Club, students work to elevate our school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Students in NJHS develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond. There are two locations for students to pick up an application: outside of Mrs. T’s room C125 and Ms. Lopez's office A104. Applications are due by September 6th.
MAP Assessment (Measure of Academic Progress)
This week we will wrap-up all of our MAP make-up tests in both Reading and Math. We will also be sending home the Fall MAP results when all of our makeup testing is completed at the end of the week.
For those families who are not familiar with the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessment, it is an adaptive test for Reading and Math where the results are used to help teachers make instructional decisions that enhance academic growth for your child. Testing is administered three times per year in the fall (August), winter (December), and spring (April).

Active Play at Recess
The primary focus of school is to maintain a safe and effective learning environment. With this being said, we will be implementing the District’s student dress code as it relates to active play at recess. If your child chooses to participate in sports play of any kind they must wear sneakers. Sneakers should have good traction and support. No part of the student’s foot should be showing. Students may not play in slides or crocs.
We want to make sure that students can run and play safely during recess, and we have found tennis shoes to be safest for the playground/schoolyard. Please send your child to school with tennis shoes each day if they wish to participate in sport activities during recess. Policy JICA-R

First PTO Meeting - Join the Parent Teacher Organization
Schools are stronger working together with our parents and community. It is for this reason we want to ask all of you to genuinely consider serving the Park students as part of our Parent Teacher Organization for this school year. The Parent Teacher Organization at Park will be a partnership of parents and the school working together to create an amazing environment for our students, staff and community. As part of the PTO you are guaranteed to collaborate with others and have fun! Most importantly, you will not be alone! I want to thank Myesha Akins PTO President, Matt and Amber Behrens (Co-Secretaries) and Kendra Mauldin (Treasurer) for committing to our PTO and working hard for our students. We are in the process of communicating with a parent about being the Vice President. We can always use general members and of course we would love you all to attend our PTO meetings. If you are interested in these positions please email Mrs. Gossett at pgossett@madisoned.org. We are looking forward to having many volunteers and events on campus this year and we need your support to make them successful.

Celebrating Academics, Attendance and Positive Behavior with Team Building Activities!
We are excited to continue our Quarterly Team Building Activities and ROAR Assemblies. These tow events are really popular with our students and are used to reward and motivate our students for their positive behavior, consistent attendance, punctuality, and academic achievements. At our school, we believe in fostering a supportive and encouraging environment where every student can thrive.
What are Team Building Activities?
Team Building Activities are fun, interactive games designed to enhance teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills among students. These activities provide a break from the traditional classroom setting and allow students to bond with their peers while learning valuable life skills. Quarterly Team Building Activities are earned by following the ROAR Expectations. Please see below for the criteria for participation in Quarterly Team Building Activities.

Encourages Collaboration: Students will learn to work together towards common goals, fostering a sense of unity and cooperation.
Enhances Communication Skills: Activities will promote effective communication and active listening, essential skills for future success.

Your support is crucial in making this initiative a success. Here are a few ways you can help:
Encourage Positive Behavior: Reinforce the importance of practicing Respect, Outreach, Achievement and Responsibility at home and school.
Promote Good Attendance: Ensure your child attends school regularly and arrives on time.
Support Academic Efforts: Help your child with their studies and encourage them to strive for their best.
Volunteer to help teachers run events during the Team Building Events.
What are ROAR Assemblies?
ROAR assemblies happen at the end of every quarter. During the assembly specific students are recognized for their accomplishment both academically and with ROAR expectations. Each quarter students can earn an Honor Roll Award based on their grades. Our categories for Honor Roll are Principal's List, Gold, Silver and Bronze Honor Roll. We also choose students for Content Awards in their Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies, and Elective Courses. Two students per grade level are also chosen for their demonstration of Respect, Outreach, and Responsibility. The ROAR assemblies take place by grade level during the school day. For students that are being recognized during the assembly, families will receive an invitation by email about a week before the event.

Academic Success
Academic Success is an afterschool program to help students who may be struggling academically. Students with grades that fall below 70% will be assigned mandatory tutoring by their teacher. The teachers will provide students with additional instruction and opportunities to correct assigned work or complete additional work until the student's grade is above 70%. Academic Success will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:45-4:30pm. Please feel free to reach out to any of your child's teachers for additional information regarding this program.
Make a Difference at Park- Volunteer at Park

Be ready to volunteer at Park this year by registering on the district website. Volunteers will be needed around campus, on field trips and PTO events. Volunteering is a great way to stay connected to your child's education. Volunteers will be permitted on Madison campuses with approval from site administration. Parent/guardian volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application. The volunteer application can be completed online here.

Free pass to the Phoenix Art Museum
Did you know that Madison Park Families can check out our school pass to the Phoenix Art Museum and enjoy free admission and discounts at The Museum Store? To check out the Phoenix Art Museum Pass please email our Library Associate, Ms. Emily Nesbeitt at enesbeitt@madisoned.org. Passes are checked out Monday through Monday and need to be returned on the following Monday after it is checked out. This fun opportunity for our families is sponsored by the Madison Education Foundation.
Library Notification
Dear Parents:
This notice is to inform you that we have purchased new books/materials for our library as of Monday, August 5th, 2024. State law requires schools to post a list of all library books and materials purchased after January 1, 2023, on the district’s website and the school’s website for at least sixty (60) days after the purchase of the items (this does not include replacement books/materials). In addition, state law mandates that schools notify parents of the opening and closing public review period within seven (7) school days prior to the opening date. Therefore, this notice dated Sunday, August 4th, 2024 provides the opening date of the public review period for newly purchased library books/materials as of Monday, August 5, 2024 and the closing date as of Friday, October 4, 2024. (A.R.S. 15-721/A.R.S. 15-722).

Student ID's and Hall Passes
We are excited to announce a new procedure starting this school year aimed at enhancing the security and monitoring of our students' whereabouts. Student IDs will be used as hall passes. This change will help us ensure a safer and more organized school environment.
How It Works
When Leaving the Classroom:
Students must show their Student ID to the teacher before leaving the classroom.
The Student will scan their ID to log the time and destination of the student.
In the Hallway:
Students must carry their Student ID at all times when outside the classroom.
Hall monitors and staff may ask to see the ID to verify permission.
Returning to Class:
Students must return directly to their classroom and check in with the teacher.

Efficient Monitoring: Allows staff to better track student movement throughout the school day.

Guidelines

Park School Wide- PBIS and ROAR
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Here at Madison Park, we have outlined four school-wide expectations for students to follow. ROAR stands for Respect Outreach Achievement and Responsibility. Students can earn PBIS digital reward points for meeting our expectations and then they can spend those points like currency in either their Teacher Stores or our amazing ROAR Store on certain Fridays. We also have our PBIS Rewards Family APP where families can view teacher comments about your child for meeting those expectations. Again our goal is to highlight the positive behaviors all students practice each and every day.
What is our PBIS Goal?
Schools that utilize SWPBIS on all levels see a lower number of student disciplines, suspensions, and detentions. Our goal is to not only use SWPBIS methods in class but to encourage parents to use them at home. Here is a guide for parents on how to use PBIS at home to help manage behavior.

PBIS Behavior Flow Chart: Here at Madison Park, we have outlined four intervention steps to help manage student behavior. This is our Behavior flowchart for how behaviors are managed here at Madison Park. Intervention 1 Verbal Reteach of the following ROAR expectation, Intervention 2 Reteach the expectation with a written reflection sheet. Intervention 3 Reteach the expectation conference with the student and assign a Reflection Time afterschool with phone call home. Intervention 4 should the behavior continue an Office Discipline Referral will be completed. Teachers will be in communication with Parents regarding assigned Reflection Time. Reflection Times are held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-4:15PM
