ADAMS SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO THE CLASS OF 2025
Congratulations to our 2025 Adams Scholars!
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts' John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is a merit-based program that provides a credit toward tuition for up to eight semesters of undergraduate education at a Massachusetts state college or university. For this scholarship, merit is based on student scores on the 10th grade Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test. Each year, seniors who have at least one score in the "Advanced" category, and whose total scores are in the top 25% of the class, are awarded this honor.
MHS DECA FINALISTS TO COMPETE AT STATE COMPETITION
On December 10th and 11th, Maynard High School's DECA club competed at the District Conference. All of our students worked hard to prepare, and six of them qualified as finalists, who will move on to compete at the state conference in February:
Jenny Smith (Professional selling)
Shannon Kelly (Professional selling)
Jack Dunton (Business Finance Series)
Jackson Caldwell (Automotive Services Marketing Series)
Kayleigh Donahue and Rachel Martins (Integrated Marketing Campaign - Product)
Congratulations to all of our finalists! It takes serious preparation, and great business sense to succeed in these competitions.
We could not have such a successful DECA program without our amazing advisor, Ms. Emily Pileeki! Thanks also to Mr. Pileeki and Mr. Soto for helping with chaperone duties.
MHS MUSIC STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR DISTRICT AND STATE ENSEMBLES
A huge round of applause goes out to all the Maynard Music Students who auditioned for the Central District Senior Festival Ensembles! We had six students audition for these ensembles this fall. We are excited and proud of our students for taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity to make music with students from around the area. We are also grateful to our two amazing music educators, Mr. Kozik and Ms. Fournier, for their instruction and their enthusiasm.
Our auditions paid off! Two of our students were accepted and will go on to perform at Mechanics Hall in Worcester later this month. Congratulations to Gavin Izaguirre on voice and Matthew Lucas on guitar! Matthew also received a recommendation to audition for the All-State Jazz Band because of his high audition score.
VIRTUAL TRAVEL FOR MHS SPANISH STUDENTS
The students in one of Ms. Adams’s Spanish Four classes were recently treated to a virtual visit by MHS class of 2022 alumna Grace Wilde, who is currently studying in Barcelona, Spain. The Economics and Hispanic Studies double major at Boston College had a lot to share about why she chose to continue her study of Spanish.
The Spanish Four class is in the midst of learning about the history and culture of Spain, so this was a great opportunity to have some of that reinforced by Grace’s presentation and stories. Grace participated in MHS’s Spanish exchange by hosting a student in the fall of 2019. She was unable to visit her student in 2020 because of the pandemic. However, Grace & Ana have stayed in touch and Grace was able to visit her and her family in Sevilla (See photo above!).
A HUGE "THANK YOU" to the MAYNARD HIGH SCHOOL PTO
On December 20, the parent volunteers of the Maynard High School PTO delivered an amazing bounty of gifts, treats, and holiday spirit. The faculty and staff were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support as we finished up our last day before vacation. Thank you so much to everyone who donated and everyone who helped out -- and a huge thank you to Jules for the festive gift bags! To say that the PTO brightened our day is an understatement!
As always, email Mhighschoolpto@gmail.com if you have any questions, or you wish to volunteer!
