Travel And Pre-arranged Absence Notification
Chamisa Families,
The district has built in dates for vacation time. We request that family use the alloted vacation time to spend with family. We do understand that there are time when the dates for family/vacation time may not match up. Any absence that occurs for a planned family vacation is considered part of the (10) parent excused absences for the school year. It is the parents/student's responsibility to make up any work missed due to a planned absence.
From the Chamisa Parent/Family Handbook:
Students planning a family trip lasting more than two days must obtain and complete a Pre-Arranged Absence Form from the main office. Please submit the form to the main office for the principal’s approval no fewer than 5 days prior to departure. Absences for travel are included in the 10 allowed excused days per year. Travel that extends beyond 10 days will be considered unexcused.

4th Grade Learns About Personal Challenges
4th graders recently read a story about how a girl faces the challenge of polio, and learns to move forward one small step at a time. The students wrote a narrative prompt about a challenge they are facing (example - learning an instrument) and how they are moving forward. To end this unit, Kathy Parsons, the mother of Mr. Parsons, and a polio survivor herself, came as a guest speaker to share life experiences and answer questions.

Notes from the Nurse
Parents, we have noticed students bringing candy and other unhealthy food choices to school for snack time as well as for lunch. These unhealthy foods are considered to be full of empty calories and cause the student to feel tired and irritable, which makes it hard to learn and function well throughout the day. Please help you student choose more nutritious snacks and lunches to eat while at school.
Thank you.
