News from Eli Terry
Week of September 8th, 2023
Abby Ludlow, 2nd grader, helped baked soft almond cookies for this week's "Eli's Treats" for staff!
Dear Eli Terry Families,
As we dive headfirst into this joyful season and our long winter break, we want to take a moment to extend our warmest wishes to each of you. This time of year is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with loved ones, reflect on the past, and look forward to the new adventures that await us in the new year.
We recognize that many families celebrate different traditions during this festive season. Whether you observe Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or another special holiday, we hope that your celebrations are filled with joy, laughter, and cherished moments together.
As we prepare to close out 2024 and welcome a fresh start in 2025, we look forward to hearing all about your holiday experiences when we return to school. Your stories and experiences are what make our school community so vibrant and connected!
Wishing you all a peaceful and happy holiday season. Enjoy this time with your family and friends!
Warm regards,
Mike & Jenn
Eli Terry's Impact
Wreaths Across America
We had many members of our Eli Terry community attend the wreath laying ceremony this past weekend. We were SO appreciative of the families who reached out following that event, sharing the incredible shout out that Eli Terry received for raising over $1000 for Wreaths Across America. Below we share the words and pictures that were shared with us.
The students who attend were SO proud to be a part of this impactful community project!
Thank you always for your support of these service learning projects.
"I wanted to let you know that Jack and I went to the Wreaths Across America ceremony in South Windsor at their Veterans Memorial. Jack was able to meet the American Legion Post 133 Commander Art Sladyk and the commander gave Eli Terry school a special shout out during the ceremony for raising over $1000 for the wreaths. Thank you for promoting this endeavor, in the end Jack learned why he and his classmates raised the money for the wreaths and how important they are to the families. Some real valuable life lessons. It also serves as a great companion event because over the Christmas break he will be visiting his great grandfather in VT who fought in WWII in the Pacific theater. He also has grandfathers who served in Vietnam."
"I was at the Wreaths Across America ceremony today and wanted to let you know that the presenter singled out ET and publicly thanked you for the school’s fundraising efforts, and the school received a round of applause from the crowd. Well done!"

Senator Murphy invites students to participate in his Office’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest. We ask students from elementary, middle, and high schools from across Connecticut to participate in honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by submitting essays that reflect on Dr. King’s dream, their own aspirations, and the importance of what Dr. King means to them.
Submissions are now open and must be received by Saturday, January 11th at 11:59pm. Essays can be submitted online or mailed to our Hartford Office.
Essay instructions and FAQs can be found below. This site includes word count guidelines, submission guidelines, and information on what we look for in essays.
We look forward to reading and reviewing your student’s work! If you have any further questions, please contact Sarah Lopez at 860-549-8463 or email at MLK_Essay@murphy.senate.gov.
