Worship Service July 28
"Tools for the Revolution" with Rev. Monica Jacobson-Tennessen
A revolution is a momentous change, and we’re certainly at the very least in a season of flux in our country now. What spiritual tools do we need to live, and to work for a better world, in these times?
No more After-Service Forums through August.
The worship service starts at 10 am.

Election Year Guidance for Congregations
Like all congregations, OUUC is tax-exempt according to the IRS. This designation has freedoms and limitations. One limitation is especially important during this election year. OUUC cannot "participate in or intervene in (including the publishing and distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.” A violation of this may cause OUUC to lose its tax-exempt status.
What we can do is articulate our values and encourage voting. Unitarian Universalism calls us to support our shared values inside and outside of our walls.
For more information, check out this guidance from the UCC denomination.
Thanks for helping OUUC be values-based in the political arena.

Ministry Programs
UU Pagan Lammas Potluck and Ritual
Friday, August 2, 6:30 pm
All are welcome to join the UU Pagan group at OUUC to celebrate Lammas (also known as Lughnasadh).
This is the first of the harvest sabbats, we will celebrate with a potluck and simple ritual.
Death Cafe at OUUC
Monday, August 5, 4:30-6 pm
Join us for the first of our monthly Death Cafes at OUUC, supported through Pastoral Care & Adult Faith Development and facilitated by Jenee Wolfram, certified End of Life Doula.
Death Cafes are an informal, death positive, group-led space for conversations about all things death and dying. They are intended to be a safe space for people to discuss death openly, confidentially, and judgment-free without a specific agenda. It is not intended to be a grief support group, but a sharing of personal stories, experiences, ideas, concerns, and feelings around death and dying. Know that it is also OK to just come and listen.
There’s no registration required. This is a drop-in program. All are welcome! Let’s normalize conversations around death and dying, bringing this long taboo topic out into the light. And, did I mention THERE WILL BE TEA & CAKE!?!
Community AntiRacism Learning Opportunity
Thursday, August 8, 6:30 pm at Olympia Timberland Library
“We Are Also in Bondage Here: Black Women in the Washington Civil Rights Movement”
The Olympia Timberland Library and the League of Women Voters of Thurston County welcome Quin'Nita Cobbins-Modica to the library for this special Humanities Washington presentation. More info here.
Volunteer at GRUB!
GRUB welcomes drop-in volunteers on Wednesdays at 5:30 to help in the garden or with other chores. The GRUB market stand is open from 3:30-6:30 each Wednesday. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the volunteer application form.
GRUB appreciates volunteers with all kinds of skills, abilities, and schedules because diversity makes our programs stronger. If you are a carpenter, knowledgeable about databases, artistic, an introvert, people person, whatever– there’s a place for you in our work to make local communities more just and food secure.
GRUB is located at 2016 Elliot Circle NW near the church. Questions? Contact Gail Gosney Wrede.
Quick Notes
Rev. Sara is away for rest and renewal time this week, and will return to OUUC on Sunday July 28th.
Beware of periodic scammers via email and text. You may be contacted by scammers impersonating Rev. Mary or other church staff. Scammers also try to reach people via text. Often, they will ask for you to contact them right away, and they may ask for financial assistance/information or contact information of others at the church. Always double check and make sure the email or text was sent from a source you recognize. Scammers will create new addresses that appear like a known email address. When in doubt, check in with the person in your life who appears to be trying to contact you, using a known contact method.
Safety Reminder: Please lock and remove valuables from your vehicles.
Download the flyer below if you would like a list of OUUC events for the summer. Great for posting on your refrigerator!
