First Week Updates!
We have had an AMAZING first three days of school! We have tried to capture as much as we can to share on Facebook for everyone to see. We want to encourage all of you to follow us if you haven't already so you can see all the fun things we have going on. We have such an awesome community of students at HMS!
We wanted to thank all of you for your patience this year as we have navigated new systems together. It has been fun to get to know your students so far through simple hallway greetings or interacting with them at recess or the cafeteria.
We had a great experience today in 7th grade science sitting with students trying to identify a hidden mystery object. We heard all kinds of ideas about what the mystery hidden object might be. There were some very creative ideas! Sitting in class, learning alongside students is the best way to build relationships.
We hope you have a wonderful three day weekend.
With kindness,
BC and SS
Open House
Please join us on Tuesday for an opportunity to experience a shortened version of your child's school day!
Who: 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Students & Families
When: September 5th (6:00pm-7:15pm)
Where: HMS
Purpose: To hear teacher expectations for students and hear about what your child will learn throughout the semester(s).
This year we will not be having Homebase on Wednesdays, so we will be following our Wednesday schedule. We were intentional about scheduling Homebase teachers this year so that students have Homebase with a teacher they have another class with. You will see on Wednesdays, we don't have a 3rd period.
Open House Schedule:
1st Period: 6:00-6:10pm
2nd Period: 6:13-6:23pm
4th Period: 6:26-6:36pm
5th Period: 6:39-6:49pm
6th Period: 6:52-7:02pm
7th Period: 7:05-7:15pm
Bells will signal times to change periods. This is not the time to connect with teachers one-on-one as they will be navigating groups of parents and preparing for each group during the three minute transitions. We appreciate your cooperation with this.
Routine Change
If students wish to drop off their instruments, they can come through the front office, drop it off and return to the entryway. At 8:40 we will open the hallways, this will provide 10 minutes for students to access their lockers, the library, and make their way to their classrooms.
Cell Phones
We wanted to share with you what was communicated to students this week around cell phone use. We are working to create a positive learning experience for students and we can only achieve that if we take a unified approach to cell phone use. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns around this.
Cell phones can be used before school, during passing times, lunch, and after school. They should be put in your backpack during class.
Cell phones are not to be used during class unless directed by your teacher
If you are using your cell phone during class, your teacher will remind you of the cell phone policy.
If the use of a cell phone continues, you will be asked to have your cell phone sent to the office for your family to pick up at the end of the day.
If there is an emergency and you need to get ahold of your child during class time, please call the office. Thank you for your collaboration on this approach.
