State Report Card Results and More
September 20, 2024
Dear Avon Lake City Schools Community,
Great job to all staff, students, parents, and community supporters who enlivened the campus this week for the various spirited and themed days. You continue to make Homecoming a special event for everyone in our school district, and I commend your spirit and your Shoremen and Shoregals pride. Let’s continue that excitement tonight at the Homecoming Game at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium versus Midview High School, and for our annual Homecoming Parade, which begins at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Avon Lake City Schools Earns 5 Stars!
The Avon Lake City Schools significantly exceeded expectations on the recently published State Report Card, on which our school district once again earned 5 stars! The ALCS also earned five stars in the Achievement and Gap Closing component, and 4 stars in our Progress component, which is significantly more growth than expected. The strong academic performance of this district is made possible by the students for their exceptional strength in the classroom and the staff members of the ALCS who work tirelessly to invest, encourage and set high standards in the classroom. Our families provide the necessary support system which allows our Avon Lake City Schools to shine. Congratulations to everyone on another 5 star performance Avon Lake!
Comparable Communities to Avon Lake Regarding Tax Rates
Treasurer Autumn Reed continues sharing information on our Levy Facts page, pinned to the home page of our website. In this week’s installment, Treasurer Reed has shared comparable tax rates and tax amounts to nearby and similar communities and demonstrates how ALCS provides a significant value for property owners. Please use this link to see those two charts.
Property values are calculated based on the value of your property and the tax rate within your city. The below chart lists the residential tax rates by city for tax year 2023. To determine the estimated full year tax amount, multiply your home's market value by the percentage listed.
The average market value of a home in Avon Lake is approximately $300,000. The chart below compares how much taxes would be for a $300,000 home in each city. An Avon Lake tax payer pays $2,670 less in taxes than a Bay Village tax payer for a home with the same value.
Reduction Options
Also, at this week’s Board of Education meeting, a list of Reduction Options was shared with the public in order to share the real decisions confronting the district should a combination of one issue, or both not pass on this November’s ballot. While making these decisions is never easy, our district must be realistically prepared for the future operational considerations moving forward. The administrative team has spent time this week traveling to the buildings to share these reduction options with staff and to answer questions. Please take a moment to review the full listing that was shared at the Board of Education meeting earlier this week.
State of the Schools Presentation on Thursday, October 3rd
Please also mark your calendars for Thursday evening, October 3rd, during which the ALCS will host a State of the Schools presentation in the Commons at Avon Lake High School at 6:30 p.m. This presentation will focus on the successful start to the 2024-2025 school year, the elements of the district’s strategic plan, and an update regarding Issue 15 and Issue 16. We all look forward to seeing you at this State of the Schools presentation.
SOUPer Bowl Drive and Contest Versus Avon to Collect Food for Those in Need
As a fun and competitive contest that ultimately helps raise awareness and resources for those in our community who are most in need, a SOUPer Bowl Food Drive is underway in Avon Lake and Avon, to help collect non-perishable food items for our local pantries. The competition with Avon culminates on Friday, October 25, 2024, during our home football game, with a trophy awarded to the community with the heaviest truck stuffed full of goods. Peanut butter, cereal, canned fruits, and other non-perishable items are needed, and there will be drop off locations at all Avon Lake Schools. Let’s help those in need, and win that trophy, too!
Thank you very much for the excitement, spirit, and pride demonstrated throughout this entire week. Let’s keep it going during Homecoming Weekend!
GO SHOREMEN and SHOREGALS!
Have a great weekend!
