Week of February 3-7
Wildcat Families,
My Good Thing this week was spending time in classrooms and witnessing students leading Good Things. I love how our students truly listen to their classmates and always make sure the Good Thing Leader gets a chance to share.
Here’s something to try at home—rather than asking, "How was your day?" try this instead: "Tell me something good that happened today." It’s a great way to spark meaningful conversations!
National School Counselor Week
February 3-7 is National School Counselor Week! Let's celebrate Mrs. Houchin and Mrs. Rogers and show them how much we appreciate them. You can find their favorite things on our Staff Favorite List below.
8th Grade Ads
The original due date for the 8th grade ads has passed, however, the site has been re-opened. This means during our last sale, is the last opportunity to complete an 8th-grade ad order. You can purchase one until January 31st. After that date, it will be locked and pages will no longer be available. You can use the link below:
WGMS Schoolwide Fundraiser
We start our school wide fundraiser on Monday! Stay tuned to upcoming information and be sure to check out the graphic provided for more information.
District Common Benchmarks (DCB)
Be sure to check our Assessment Calendar below for our upcoming (DCBs). For the Math DCB, we will be on a modified bell schedule. Bell schedules are linked below. The DCBs are important diagnostic tools that provide data for our teachers that will help them to continue to build engaging lessons as well as identify academic areas needing growth. Please encourage your student to try their best and take the DCBs seriously so we can get accurate data.
Congratulations Choir!
This weekend, WGMS Choir students attended the Region Five All-Region Choir auditions. We are happy to report that 15 students were accepted into the All-Region Choir and that WGMS had the highest placement rate of all 28 schools that attended the contest. Congratulations to Jackson Burns, Lorena Caudle, Lyph Fields, Emma Fincher, Lilly Franca, Knight Funderburk, Meena Guermi, Ethan Hoff, Sebastian Lozano, Syncere Lozano, Hudson Lynn, Preston Peace, Landon Reeves, Camden Vaughan, and Elin Whitaker!
VALENTINE GRAMS
Valentine Grams will sell February 5-7 during lunches. They will cost $3, and include a Valentine of the student's choosing, as well as a box of candy. The Valentine Grams will be delivered during WIN class on February 12.
The WGMS 8th Grade Boosters are selling the Candy Grams to raise money for our end of year party and we need your help! Please look over the sign up below and help out where you can! Your help is greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!

February CKH word - Kindness
This month we are challenging your student to be kind to others, even when it’s hard. We are partnering with you to help your child grow in kindness. Most children learn new behaviors by copying those around them; we have a powerful opportunity and responsibility to teach kindness by example. This month, model kindness and empower your children to show compassion to those around them with these activities.

8th Grade Parents
Wildcat Parent Volunteer Sign-Up Form
What is a Wildcat Parent Volunteer?
We are a group of Wildcat parents who donate goodies to the Walnut Grove staff once a month. This is usually in the form of breakfast, lunch, and snacks for all staff on campus.
How can you help?
There are a few ways you can help.
1) You can sign up to be a donation supporter. A donation supporter is for our families who cannot necessarily be away from their home or office during the school day but want to be part of the WPV group. Monthly, we would send out a request for donations. This is usually sent via Venmo and the funds are used to purchase meals and snacks for that month's event.
2)If you have free time and like to be more hands on, you can sign up to help us decorate the designated area for that month. This is usually done in the front office conference room. We arrive on campus around 10:30 AM and are typically wrapping up around 1:10 PM. You would not have to commit to the whole time slot. We decorate and then help serve the food, restock between lunches, etc. Any amount of time you are able to give is greatly appreciated.
3) Do you own a business and want to get your name out to Walnut Grove teachers and staff? We would love to partner with you and have you sponsor a meal for us that month or even sponsor only the drinks or a dessert option for the month.
We have lots of ways for you to be involved. If this sounds like something you would like to participate in, please complete this Google Form and we will add you to our group communication.
Thank you so much for your interest in joining the Wildcat Parent Volunteers.

Vape Sensors
Dear MISD Parents,
Safety and security are a top priority in MISD. As an added layer of student safety, vape sensors have been installed throughout all MISD secondary campuses serving grades six and above. The installation of the sensors supports legislative requirements set forth by House Bill 114 that went into effect with the start of the 2023-24 school year. The new law takes a strong stance on prohibiting the possession and use of vape devices at school. Any student who possesses or uses a vape device of any kind on school grounds is subject to disciplinary placement in DAEP and the student's ability to participate in extracurricular activities could be impacted. The law also requires the district to notify School Resource Officers (SROs) about violations. Vape device use of THC is subject to felony drug charges. Parents may reference Texas Health and Safety Penal Code 481.002(26) for more information. Installed sensors are equipped with tamper detection software and should not be touched. This includes throwing anything at the sensors. Students will be held accountable and subject to disciplinary consequences in accordance with the district’s Student Code of Conduct policy if they tamper with a detection device. Thank you for your partnership and support as we work together to keep our students safe. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school. Sincerely, Midlothian ISD
