Penguin's Raft
3rd week of November
#GOPENGUINS #PositiveSignThursday
Congrats To Our Girls On The Run Team for their Belle Isle Race This Morning!
Dear Moraine Families,
Character traits such as honor, courage, commitment, loyalty, and integrity are all a part of the fabric of raising leaders. As parents and educators, we work to instill these qualities through acts of kindness, community awareness, and connection.
As we celebrate Veteran's Day, please take a moment to pause with your family to recognize the men and women that have served our country. Selflessly dedicating themselves to others, our Veterans have made it possible to build the beautiful learning community we have and a safer world for each of us.
For some of us, we'll have an opportunity to thank some of our Veterans this week as our Dad's Club meeting will be at the VFW hall this upcoming Wednesday night at 7pm.
With a grateful heart, THANK YOU TO OUR VETERANS.
Be well and talk soon,
Joe Reimann

PTA News
Join us on Monday, November 14th at 7 pm in the Makers Space or by Microsoft Teams for our next PTA general meeting. Hear from Northville Youth Network on how to equip you and your family to handle the stress of the upcoming holiday and winter season. Dr. Webber will be there as well to share a Superintendent's update. Details provided in a separate email.
Danielle Hannawa will be stepping up into the President role on November 14th. As a result, the PTA Executive Board is looking for a volunteer to step into the Vice President role for the remainder of the school year. Are you interested in becoming more involved with the PTA and school but not sure how? Then this is the role for you! Not only do you get to work with a great group of parents, but the responsibilities are minimal and limited to the 22-23 school year. Contact ptamoraine@gmail.com for more information.
Do you like to shop on Minted? Now you can shop AND give back to the PTA at the same time! Use the unique promo code FUNDRAISEMORAINE to get 20% off Minted stationery & gifts all year, and 15% of every order placed will be donated back to Moraine PTA.
Scrip Cards
Moraine Families,
Scrip letters and forms will be coming home this week in the Monday envelope. Each year our school is able to fundraise by the purchase of Scrip cards. Scrip simply means “substitute money”-in other words it’s a gift card to national & local retailers that you would normally buy in their store. It’s another easy way for our school to make money. We sell Scrip cards twice a year, in December & at the end of the school year. They make great gifts for teachers, as stocking stuffers, & for those hard to buy people without having to fight the traffic or crowds to purchase them! Another idea is to buy them for yourself, if you enjoy Starbucks pick up a few $10 cards to treat yourself later & help Moraine at the same time.
Simply fill out the form and turn it into the office with a check made out to Moraine PTA by Friday December 2nd. Pickup will be Monday December 12th from 8:30am-9am & 3:45-4:15pm, in plenty of time for holiday gifts.
Parent Coffee Talks
The Parent Lighthouse Team is planning to host a “Parent Coffee Talk” once a month. Every month we will meet to discuss each of the “7 Habits of Highly Effective Families”. You do not need to have attended the parent workshop in October to join us for these informal “Parent Coffee Talks”.
We will also be providing an opportunity to discuss The Gift of Failure, by Jessica Lahey, from Mr. Reimann’s summer “book chat”. This will take place on January 19, during the second half of the “Parent Coffee Talk”. This book is a great parenting resource, and truly warrants another discussion for those of you who were not able to join us in August.
The schedule is as follows:
November 17 – Habit 1: Be Proactive
December 15 – Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
January 19 – Habit 3: Put First Things First (9:00-10:15)
January 19 – Book Chat: The Gift of Failure (10:30-11:30)
February 23 – Habit 4: Think Win-Win
March 16 – Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be
Understood
April 20 – Habit 6: Synergize
May 18 – Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
These meetings will take place in Room 311 at Old Village School (405 Main Street in Northville) from 9:00-10:30 AM (except on January 19). Parking is behind Old Village School next to the library. Light refreshments are provided. Please bring something to drink and join us as we have fun discussing how to successfully (and at times unsuccessfully) implement the 7 Habits at home.
Please contact either one of us with questions:

Northville High School presents "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"
Reserved seating only, so get your tickets early!
"An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius. The small cast and unit set make this a perfect option for high schools or community theatres. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a fast-paced crowd pleaser and an instant theatre patron favorite.”
Friday, November 18th @ 7pm
Saturday November 19th 2pm & 7pm
Sunday November 20th @ 2pm
Schoology Parent Login and Access Codes
Parents now have the ability to look up the Parent Access Code for their children's Schoology accounts on Parent Connect under Login Credentials. Parents seeking access codes can be directed to Parent Connect and use the access codes to set up their Schoology Parent Account.
In addition, are you looking to set up your Parent Schoology account for the first time or are new to NPS this year?
Find out how to set up their Schoology Parent Account by clicking the link. Each grade level uses Schoology to support communication and student learning at that level.
The Zones of Regulation
If your child has ever blown up at their sibling for what seems like something small, really struggle moving in the morning (even after a great night of sleep), or gotten out of control at a fun event because there was too much stimulation, you know the importance of teaching self-awareness and self-regulation!
One of the ways Moraine supports students with Social/Emotional Learning is by teaching students to monitor their emotions and energy by using the Zones of Regulation. There are 4 Zones that can be used with children as young as pre-school to help identify emotions, energy, and the strategies to help center the body and mind.
Check out these resources (and ask your child to explain!) to use familiar language at home:

Let Grow Project!
Northville Council of PTAs present the Let Grow Project!
When Adults Step Back, Kids Step Up
At Let Grow, we believe today’s kids are smarter and stronger than our culture gives them credit for.
Treating them as physically and emotionally fragile is bad for their future — and ours.
Let Grow is making it easy, normal and legal to give kids the independence they need to grow into capable, confident, and happy adults.
