A Note from the Principal
This week we are celebrating spirit week in honor of Galesburg High School Homecoming Week. The students are not required to participate, but it does build excitement and helps us come together as a school community. Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Dress Your Best Day, Wednesday is Red, White & Blue Day, Thursday is Favorite Sport/Activity Day, and Friday is Steele/Galesburg Color Day.
We will have picture day on Tuesday and all classrooms should be able to get their picture taken before they head out to recess, PE, and lunch. You do not have to order pictures ahead of time. A proof will come home first and then you are able to order them through the website.
Our first behavior reward day was a success. Over 95% of our students were able to participate in chalk drawings all over our sidewalks on August 30th. Since we currently have 554 students, we were so proud that the vast majority of our students were able to demonstrate expectations. We will have another reward day on September 30th.
Our first family fun night will be on September 19th from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. We will have a variety of games and activities for you to participate in around the school, You don't want to miss it!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Coate

How do we grade at the elementary level? We use a standards-based report card instead of a report card with letter grades. Elementary report cards are issued at the end of each grading period. They are intended to give an evaluation of the scholastic achievement and work habits of each child. Parents should examine all cards carefully since each child is rated not only on academic progress, but also progress in development of social attitudes and work habits.
We use a 4,3,2,1 system to assess a student's mastery of standards.
4 = Exceeding State and District Standards
3 = Meeting State and District Standards
2 = Approaching State and District Standards
1 = Not Meeting State and District Standards
