Policy Updates for 24-25 School Year
Dear WSTA Parents and Guardians,
As we prepare for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, I want to take a moment to discuss a few important aspects of our school community: our dress code and cell phone use. At Wright Science and Technology Academy, we believe that consistency in both areas contributes to a positive and focused learning environment. This year, we are emphasizing a return to these expectations, and I want to share with you why this is important and how we can work together to support our students.
Dress Code:
The dress code is more than just a set of rules; it’s a reflection of the values we hold as a school community. By following a uniform policy, we help to foster a sense of belonging and equality among students, reducing distractions and allowing them to concentrate on their education. When students dress according to the guidelines, it sends a message that they are ready to learn and engage in the school day with respect for themselves and their peers.
After speaking with many of you, I understand that some families feel unprepared to fully meet the dress code requirements as we start the school year. We want to be mindful of these concerns and show grace as everyone adjusts. Therefore, while uniforms are the expectation and we encourage all students to start getting used to the dress code, we will officially begin enforcing the dress code starting on October 1st.
Cell Phone Policy:
In addition to the dress code, I want to remind everyone that cell phones are still not allowed to be used or visible during the school day. Students should keep their phones in their pockets or backpacks while in classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, and other common areas around the school. We are actively working on finding resources to support this initiative and to establish an official policy, but until then, it is crucial that students refrain from using their phones during school hours.
I understand that enforcing these guidelines will require patience and cooperation from all of us—staff, students, and families alike. It’s important to acknowledge that change can be difficult, but with clear communication and mutual understanding, we can make this a smooth and positive experience for everyone.
Working Together:
In the meantime, I encourage you to discuss both the dress code and cell phone guidelines with your child, explaining how these expectations contribute to a positive school environment. We ask for your support in helping your child begin to adopt these practices as soon as possible, so the transition is seamless.
Our goal is to create an environment where every student feels comfortable, respected, and ready to learn. By working together, we can ensure that these guidelines support this goal and help our students succeed.
Thank you for your continued partnership and understanding. We look forward to a successful school year ahead.
If you have any questions or require support with uniforms, please do not hesitate to call the school.
Warm regards,
Nate Meyers
