Meadowbrook News
September 27, 2024
From Principal Natalie
Good Afternoon Meadowbrook,
It's just about Carnival time! Thank you in advance to our Carnival Co-Chairs Angela Higgins and Amy Becklund and everyone who signed up to volunteer. It is an event our students will always remember; I hope to see you there!
Elementary fall conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, October 15th from 11:00am to 7:00pm and Wednesday, October 16th from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
- You will have the opportunity to have the conference in person, virtually through Google Meet, or over the phone. It is not expected that teachers schedule alternative conference times outside of the conference days. Thank you for honoring our conference calendar schedule.
- Each student is allotted one 20-minute conference slot. For students with two households, we ask that you plan to attend the conference jointly. If there are circumstances that prevent this from being possible, you may divide the 20 minute spot into 2 - 10 minute increments.
- Sign up links are available below and will be open through Tuesday, October 8th at 6pm. Please be careful when signing up and double check that you are signing up for the correct teacher(s).
If you haven't had a chance to read the Family Handbook yet, I’m including the links again below. We appreciate you taking the time to review it and completing the Google Form to acknowledge you’ve read it. If any questions come up, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Lawson or me.
In partnership,
Natalie

Social-Emotional Learning Survey October 1 - November 1
Building our social-emotional learning (SEL) skills is an important goal for our school this year. We will be asking for your 3-5th grade child to reflect on their mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school in their homerooms (we will be asking homeroom teachers to reflect for K-2 children).
The survey will ask students to self-reflect on social and emotional competencies that align with the Hopkins scholar traits outlined in the district's strategic plan.
We are asking that all our students participate in the surveys. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they can skip the item. The responses to these surveys are completely confidential. If you have any questions about the SEL survey or would like information about opting out, please don’t hesitate to contact us. You may also choose to opt your student out of this survey here.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
This week, we're continuing to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a special animated music video titled "Join the Celebración." This vibrant, original song pays tribute to icons, artists, and heroes from Hispanic and Latino communities, such as Frida Kahlo and Celia Cruz, showcasing the powerful cultural contributions they’ve made. The animation brings these figures to life, highlighting their influence across art, music, and history in a fun and engaging way. It’s a wonderful opportunity for both kids and adults to learn and celebrate together! Be sure to check out the video and let the music take you on a cultural journey!

The Meadowbrook Carnival is Tomorrow!
We can't wait to see everyone at the carnival tomorrow from 3 - 6 p.m. It's going to be a gorgeous day! The students have final Before You Go information in their Friday Folders - make sure to take a look. If you purchased your wristbands before Thursday, you should have received them in the Friday folder as well. Didn't receive them? No problem - we'll have a list of people who pre-purchased wristbands available at each wristband table.
- Purchase Your Wristbands. Buy your kiddos their wristbands now and pick them up at the event! Wristbands will be available to purchase on-site.
- Fill one of our remaining volunteer shifts! It's fun, and we need your help! Sign up now.
- Buy Meadowbrook Adventures Entries. Review the list of experiences you can win and buy entries for $1 each at the carnival!

Districtwide Parent and Caregiver Group for Supporting Gender Expansive Kids
Are you the caregiver of a child who transcends traditional binary gender roles? We are offering a supportive, ongoing group for parents and caregivers to ask questions, share ideas, and support one another. Some children may identify as transgender, gender fluid, non-binary, gender queer, gender expansive, or simply move through the world in a much more gender-free type of way.
This is for parents and families from all of Hopkins schools -- and from all grade levels (elementary, middle, and high school, and beyond). Laura Jensen, Hopkins Schools LGBTQ+ Community Liaison will facilitate the meetings. This is not a group to debate the issue, rather for parents looking to support their child.
