Fall 2024
A Message from the MVSD Family Engagement Department
MVSD Family Center: Every Family has a Story - Welcome to Ours
The Mountain View family is made up of 4903 students, their parents, caregivers, grandparents, extended family, MVSD staff, and community partners. Family members come from over 16 different countries and speak 15 different languages. Each family member has their unique personalitiy, and view of the world. As most families, we are essential and impactful in our own way. We each have something unique to offer. The MVSD family is united by the belief that together we can achieve great things. The more we learn from each other the better we will be.
As a family, we have accomplished many things in just a few months. We have increased our attendance in school, learned about diverse cultures through school celebrations, participated in school and district meetings and advisory committees like CPAC, school site council meetings, and teacher conferences. We have continued to learn to read great literature, solve complex problems, and communicate our thoughts and opinions.
As a family, we have been able to provide food resources, volunteer to help programs thrive, and coordinate health resources for those who need access.
As we come to the end of 2024, let's take some time to reflect on the positive things we as a family have been able to create and smile! We can welcome in 2025 with a "high five" because we have a huge family wishing us success!
We invite you to visit us at the Family Center, come by for a Zumba class, ESL class, or visit the Food Pantry. We will greet you with a smile that says "Welcome home!"
Thankfulness
The more you practice thankfulness the more you have reasons to be grateful. The Mountain View School District would like to invite you to reflect on the things we are most thankful for: the food on our table, the friends that surround us and our family members at our side. Our community thrives as we work together to create families filled with kindness and hope.
Activities: As a family, find out the story behind each of your names. Acknowledge how each story is a little different and unique, which makes it special to each person.
Share the story of your name with the person sitting beside you.
Who chose it?
Why did they choose it?
Do you like your name? Why or Why not?
I am Alma Sofia Esperanza José Pura Candela.
I wonder why I have such a long name!
I hear Papá tell me the wonderful stories about my courageous ancestors.
I see photographs of the people that I am named after.
I want to be a talented painter like my abuelo, José.
I am Alma Sofia Esperanza José Pura Candela.
I understand why my parents chose this incredible name.
I say, “Thank you for this wonderful gift!”
Nutrition Tip: Family gatherings and celebrations
Family gatherings are a great time to make memories with loved ones while prioritizing health. With a little creativity, celebrations can be both joyful and nourishing. Try incorporating nutritious foods into your festivities, such as colorful salads, fresh fruits, or homemade dishes with whole ingredients. Click here for a 3-Can Chili recipe from MyPlate. Find more cozy and warm recipes on the MyPlate website. Encourage active play, such as a friendly game of tag, a nature walk, or even dancing in the living room.
