Tigerville Times
March 2025 Edition
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Tigerville Families,
As we enter the month of March, I am filled with excitement about all the wonderful learning opportunities our students will experience. The start of spring brings a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm, and our school is buzzing with activity!
We have some exciting learning ahead of us this month. Our teachers are continuing to engage students with hands-on lessons, projects, and interactive experiences. Whether it’s exploring the seasons, diving into math concepts, or creating works of art, March promises to be full of growth and discovery for all of our students.
As a reminder, Spring Break is scheduled for March 14-21. I encourage everyone to enjoy this time to relax and recharge for the final stretch of the school year. When we return, we will be focusing on finishing the year strong with fun and engaging learning experiences.
Lastly, thank you for your continued support and partnership. It truly takes a village to provide the best experience for our students, and I am so grateful to work alongside such a dedicated group of parents, staff, and community members.
Let’s make this March memorable with lots of reading, learning, and growth. Together, we can help our students continue to thrive!

Happy March Tigerville Families! March is National Youth Art Month, an annual celebration that highlights the value of art in education. The month-long observance encourages public support for quality school art programs. Here are some of the Goals of Youth Art Month:
- Recognize art education as a vital part of a student's education
- Encourage students' commitment to the arts
- Promote art material safety
- Highlight the importance of art education for critical thinking and problem solving
- Activities student exhibitions, public art works, art festivals, and school events.
Youth Art Month is designated as a national celebration and provides the opportunity to “celebrate visual art education for grades K – 12” according to the National Art Educators Association.
At Tigerville we have several opportunities to see our student’s art work! We have a hall display of student art on the art banners located on the art room hallway! We also will have more western style art displayed in the hallway leading to the cafeteria as support for our spring musical, GO WEST, to decorate and support our chorus’s hard work. The show will be held March 10th and March 11th!
Last but not least we wish to celebrate Paige Ott as our winner chosen to represent Tigerville in the Litter Trashes Everyone Art Contest. Our entire student body wishes Paige good luck as her entry goes on to the state level of judging at the SC Governors office!
Counselor's Corner
Should I dare to say…Spring is in the air! During March we will be talking about manners. Students will be learning how to show respect and kindness to others through using our manners! Our annual 5th grade Manners Luncheon will be held on Thursday, March 13th. This luncheon concludes a Guidance unit on business etiquette, dining etiquette, appropriate attires for different situations, and practicing our signatures. Students are given official invitations and expected to RSVP via phone. This year, we have someone coming from Core 450 to teach our 5th graders about dining etiquette where they practice selecting the correct utensil for each course, cutting with a knife, the proper way to sit, etc… This Tigerville tradition exposes students to a formal dining experience while reinforcing soft skills necessary for the future. We are very excited!
Library Loop
We are headed into Spring with new books and fresh reads. The library has been busy receiving new books and getting them into the hands of students and teachers. This year, the library has cataloged and added over 219 books.
.
Monday, March 3 is Read Across America Day. We will be highlighting the books One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Students are invited to wear red or blue or fish shirts.
Our Battle of the Books team is preparing for our competition on Tuesday, April 1. If we win at this tournament, we will be invited to the championship tournament on Thursday, April 3. A location is TBD by the district.

Music Notes
March is here! I sure hope the cold air is gone until next winter and the sun is up after 6pm. The cold is simply not my friend.
Well, we are getting ready for our Spring production of Go West. The chorus kids have been working so hard and are extremely excited to put on a show for you. Make sure you have reserved your tickets and paid for them so you can attend. Our performance days are: Monday, March 10th and Tuesday, March 11th at 6:00 pm.
K5 has learned a great deal about all the different instruments and the instrument families. They’ve seen some and even tried to play some. The Trumpet was exciting for them because they got to try and produce a sound. Not easy to do when you are 5 and 6 years old.
1st is staying on Quaver at this time because I want to get them playing on our new drums. We have been learning about the 4 instrument families. Percussion is always a fun couple of weeks.
2nd has also done a great job playing the Barred instruments and the Boomwhackers. Next for them will be the Ukulele staring in a week or so.
3rd-5th are working to pass the Belt songs in Recorder Karate. They are doing a great job in the Unit and seem to love the Recorder. And for me, I just love listening to the 3 classes each day of the week. I would like to bring the Ukulele back into our lessons if we have time.
OK, don’t forget about ordering your tickets and sending the $2 per ticket in for our Spring production. If you have any questions, send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Spring is right around the corner! Our k5 through 2nd grade classes will be starting off March with jump rope until we start to see warmer temps, then we will be outside for soccer. Third through 5th grade will be completing the end of year Fitnessgram testing, and will be able to see their progress by comparing scores from their beginning and mid-year results. Our running club wrapped up at the end of February, and our group completed a total of 91.7 miles! Students were able to track their distance using the marathon kids program. I will be sending forms home for the color run coming up in April, we had a great turnout last year and I hope we have the same again!
STEM Lab Notes
In March, STEM activities will connect to the math standards that students are learning in class. Third graders will solve real-world math problems involving area and perimeter of a figure, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths and finding unknown side lengths. In fourth grade, students will calculate the value of a collection of coins and bills in real world situations to determine if there is enough money to make a purchase. Fifth grade students will use a rule to complete a pattern in a function table given a real-world situation. They will then form an ordered pair from the table and graph it on a coordinate plane. In second grade STEM activities will be focused on life science. Students will plan and conduct investigations to determine what plants need to grow and make observations of plants and animals in diverse habitats.
In K5 and first grade, students will learn about how seeds travel. After learning about which seeds have been known to travel the farthest and how the size, shape, weight and dispersal strategies of the seeds affect the distance they travel, we will use recycled materials to design a seed that could travel long distances.
PTA Press
We have two things coming up for our Tigerville families. First, it's time for our Luckiest Leprechaun contest. Students may vote for their favorite teacher or staff members by bringing in dollars. The teacher or staff member with the most votes (dollars) will have the honor of being our Luckiest Leprechaun on March 13. Students may begin bringing in money on March 3. The last day to bring in money is March 12. Next, we have our annual Spring Fling on March 28. This is a great time for families to have fun together on a Spring evening. Watch for more details. Additionally, the PTA Nominating Committee would like to present PTA nominees for the 2025-26 school year. The following nominees will be voted upon immediately preceding the color run on the April 11, 2025.
