The Carver Connection
April 14, 2025
FROM THE DESK OF MR. ALLEN
George Washington Carver STEM Academy Family,
We are excited to announce a change in our after-school programming provider. Beginning this fall, our after-school care will transition to the Lexington Parks & Recreation Extended School Program (ESP). This move comes after careful consideration and is driven by our commitment to ensuring our after-school offerings are closely aligned with the climate and environment of our school. We believe that partnering with ESP, a licensed program, will provide a more seamless and integrated experience for our students and families.
Lexington Parks & Recreation ESP offers both part-time and full-time enrollment options to meet varying family needs. The program is dedicated to fostering a safe and fun environment for children and also provides homework assistance. To further ensure a smooth transition and strong communication, a dedicated staff member from our school will also work as a paid staffer with ESP. This individual will serve as a liaison, keeping ESP informed of important school happenings and helping to bridge the gap between the school day and the after-school program.
ESP operates from the end of the school day until 6:00 PM. We are also pleased to share that ESP offers financial assistance and accepts The Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), making quality after-school care more accessible to our community. We are confident that this partnership with Lexington Parks & Recreation ESP will be a positive change that will better serve our growing community and provide a supportive and enriching experience for our students.
Additional information regarding ESP can be found at LEXINGTONKY.GOV/ESP. The ESP Manager, Harold Kouns, can be contacted at (859)288-2912 or at hkouns@lexingtonky.gov. He is ready and able to assist you in the process.
Thank you,
Lamar Allen, Ed.S.
Principal

REPEATS
UPDATE YOUR INFO IN IC
Fayette County Public Schools reminds families in the district to take a moment mid-school year to review and update their contact information, including an updated address, and language preferences in the Campus Parent portal. Doing so will help ensure FCPS can send accurate and timely information to parents/caregivers when needed.
*Please follow this LINK to the Reminder to Check IC Details page where you can also find the link to the Parent Portal Link. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL INFORMATION IS UP-TO-DATE!
PBIS DONATIONS
Would you like to contribute to our Dojo Store? Follow this link to our wish list. Thank you for all you do for our scholars!
ATTENDANCE
It is important that your scholar is here daily. When scholars are absent they miss important academic content. Equally, tardies have a negative impact upon your scholar as well and cause a disruption to the learning environment when arriving late.
Did you know?
- A child who is 10 minutes late misses 32 hours a year of lost education.
- A child who misses 1 day a week loses 2 months a year of education.
- Half a day a week missed throughout school life equates to 1 full year of lost education.
Please make every effort to have your scholar here and on time daily!
- If scholars are not in their classroom at 7:45 a.m., when the bell rings, we kindly ask that you check them in through the front office.
- If your scholar is absent, please make sure you send in an excuse and/or parent note, within three days, at which time the absence will be marked as excused.
- Keep in mind that you are allowed 10 parent notes per year
