From the Desk of Dr. Smith
Welcome to Claymont
Greetings Families,
We did it! The students successfully transitioned into their first week of the 2024-2025 school year. By Wednesday, our kindergarten students confidently found their classrooms and those that could not were assisted by friends. Our students in our upper grades were diving into books and beginning writing pieces to let their new classroom community get to know them a little bit better. In our Spanish immersion classes, students were already hablando en Español (speaking in Spanish) like they never too a break. Finally, parents were able to navigate the pick up, drop off, and our carline. We appreciated everyone's support and collaboration as we made sure that everyone got home correctly and safely. Please see carline and walker information below to ensure that our process just gets more efficient as the year progresses.
We appreciate our amazing staff who prepared tirelessly to ensure that this week was a success and that our students felt welcomed into a new classroom community. We are excited for students to begin to dive into their curriculum and more importantly...GROW! Let's continue the momentum and our excitement for an amazing school year!

Safety is Our Priority
Parents, parking and releasing your students on Green Street, the surrounding streets, or in the front parking lot is NOT permitted. This is a HUGE safety hazard! Our buses park in the front of our building and dropping your student off there puts them in grave danger, especially when you get out of the car and tell them to do something different from the adults on duty. Additionally, we want to be respectful to our surrounding community and your neighbors by following our systems for dismissal and arrival.
If your student arrives or gets picked up from school via car, utilize the car line. If we see this happening at dismissal you will be asked by staff to please go to the car line. Your student will be at the car line door for pick up.
Parent Waiting Area
In order to keep our building and students safe, all parents that come to the building to pick up students are asked to wait in the vestibule. This is not to be rude or keep you from your child, but to ensure that we are keeping our building safe and secure. We utilize the intercom system to assess each parent's need. Please push the button and speak loudly and clearly so that we can assist you with your needs. We appreciate your patience and professionalism as we work together to get your students to you in a safe way.
Early Dismissals
When your student has an early dismissal it is extremely helpful for families to inform the classroom teacher.
Please note: Students are not called to the office prior to parents arriving. Often times there are delays and we don't want students to miss additional instruction.
Please try to arrive before your scheduled pick-up time to ensure that your student is out to you in a timely manner. By keeping everyone informed, we should be able to get your student to you in a timely fashion.
The cut-off for early dismissals is 2:45 p.m.
Families Have a Say Too!
Thank you to those families who took the time to share their thoughts about the change to our Claymont Mission and Vision. We know they are lofty, but our philosophy is shoot for the moon and you'll land among the stars. No one rises to low expectations. We will continue to maintain high expectations for our students and support them in their pursuit of their goals and with your support we will make it a little close to the moon every day.

STEAM with Ms. Smock
The students in Ms. Schluetter and Ms. Frazer's classes were introduced to STEAM with Ms. Smock this week. This is a special where students get to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through problem-solving activities. Looks great for their first experience!
