Willett Spotlight
Mrs. Freshour, Ms. Noelle, and the Willett Student Council
This week we spotlight two of Willett’s great 4th grade teachers and their work with the Willett Student Council! Mrs. Yolanda Freshour (left in picture) and Ms. Noelle Fogliasso (right in picture) tell us a bit about themselves and their very much appreciated work with the students of the council.
Mrs. Freshour
· How long have you been at Willett? Three years.
· What brought you to Willett? I wanted to be part of the amazing Willett community!
· What was your favorite subject in school ? Art and recess!
· Is there anything else you’d like to share with us? I love Mickey Mouse! I love running and walking! I love my faith and family!
Ms. Noelle
· How long have you been at Willett? Four years.
· What brought you to Willett? I previously taught at Montgomery Elementary, and when they transitioned to all bilingual education I transferred to Willett Elementary.
· What was your favorite subject in school? Reading! I've always been an avid reader, especially of fantasy and historical and realistic fiction.
· Is there anything else you’d like to share with us? Ms. Freshour and I used to team teach! We shared a fourth-grade classroom at Montgomery and for one year at Willett. I'm excited to be teaching in fourth grade with her again. I have a second grader at Willett. I love to ride my Peloton bike and go on walks. My favorite way to spend my time is being with family and friends. I also enjoy a good cup of coffee, a quiet spot with a new book, and a trip to Disneyland. My favorite thing about teaching 4th grade is teaching California history and being with the amazing students in my class; they are the reason I want to go to work every day.
Willett Student Council
The purpose of Student Council is to support our community, build leadership skills, promote school spirit, and give voice to our student body. Student Council encourages school spirit by creating posters for spirit weeks and promoting school spirit. They also design posters highlighting our monthly character traits and record videos to help teach these traits during our monthly assemblies. In addition, Student Council fosters a positive school culture by organizing and supporting school events. Here are some of Willett’s Student Council accomplishments from this year:
- Ruby Bridges Walk to promote anti-racism and anti-bullying.
- Sock-tober to collect socks for local shelters.
- Movie Night: Cocoa with Coco – members created decorations for the ofrenda, helped set up and run the event, and assisted with clean-up.
- Promoted school spirit by delivering the Hootie Award weekly.
- Served our community by collecting recycling from lower-grade classrooms each week.
- Partnered with the PTA on a food drive to collect donations for STEAC.
- Installed a Student Suggestion Box in the MPR to amplify student voices.
- During National Reading Month, members wrapped donated books for giveaways.
- Expressed appreciation through handmade thank-you cards for Meals on Wheels volunteers, Willett staff Valentines, and notes for Paraprofessional Appreciation Week.
- Currently, we are working on a Campus Beautification Day and preparing for end-of-year events.
Thank you Mrs. Freshour, Ms. Noelle, and students of the Willett Student Council for your work at Willett! You add so much to our community and you are very much appreciated!

Bike to School Avtive4.me Update
Active4.me is a volunteer-led activity at Willett that is supported by the City of Davis. This year our program at Willett is being staffed by three non-parent volunteers who show up every day to scan our kids as they arrive to school. We need volunteers to both coordinate and become active scanners. Ideally, the program would have one coordinator and five active scanners so that there is flexibility for people to rotate and not have to be there every day. A laptop is available for the program, so you don't need to use your personal equipment. If you like having this program at Willett we need your help to keep it going. Otherwise, it is very likely that this program will end after the current school year. If you are interested in helping or know someone who is, please contact the Willett PTA at: president@willettpta.org or communications@willettpta.org Thank you!
BECOME ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR NEXT YEAR AT WILLETT
We’re looking for someone organized and friendly to serve as a Room Parent Coordinator—a key role that keeps our school community connected and running smoothly. In this position, you’ll be the link between teachers, families, and the PTA, ensuring everyone gets the information they need and that our events are a success.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead & Support: Oversee the team of room parents across classrooms. Offer guidance, share best practices, and serve as the go-to resource when questions or challenges arise.
- Facilitate Communication: Send clear, concise weekly PTA messages to each classroom, keeping parents informed about upcoming events and important updates.
- Plan & Organize: Work closely with the PTA to help plan school events, including Staff Appreciation Week and class celebrations. Coordinate volunteer efforts and assist in gathering supply donations when needed.
- Collaborate with Teachers: Meet with teachers to understand their classroom needs. Ensure that room parents have the information and support necessary to help enhance the classroom experience.
- Build Community: Foster a supportive network among room parents and families. Share ideas and resources to make every school event a success and help create lasting connections within our community.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS:
Your leadership as a Room Parent Coordinator will not only streamline communications but also create a positive, welcoming atmosphere for students, teachers, and families alike. This role is essential for building a strong school community where everyone feels supported and involved.
If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact, please email us at willettroomparent@gmail.com.

Loopalooza: Sunday, May 4th
Volunteers are needed to help run the various stations around the 12-mile Davis bike loop. Willett (Sycamore Park) is one of the stations each year (station 11). Families are encouraged to participate in this annual event by riding together as a community. More information will come soon but the idea would be for everyone to gather at Willett and then ride the loop together, for community building and fun. We are still updating the website but you can find out more information here: https://www.cityofdavis.org/city-hall/public-works-engineering-and-transportation/bike-pedestrian-program/street-smarts/programs/loopalooza
