Principal's Message
Hello, AMS Students and families,
We’re just about ready to kick off another amazing school year, and I can’t wait to see you all next week! Our staff has been hard at work this past week preparing classrooms and activities to ensure that everything is set for your arrival. We're so excited to welcome you back!
As you enjoy this extended weekend in celebration of Labor Day, I hope you have some time to relax and recharge. Remember, the first day of school is Wednesday, and we will follow our regular schedule with an early release at 1:40 PM. Please view the various bell schedules posted below. I have included a copy of the year-long bell schedule, but also the unique schedules that we have for the first 3 weeks of school.
Please know that our doors will open for student arrival in the front and back at 7:45 am. Parents/guardians dropping students off may do so in the upper lot off of 22nd street. Please view the picture below for the drop-off route. Many students are dropped off in that location so we ask for a speedy drop-off and that no one parks in any of the stalls.
Looking forward to an incredible year of learning, growth, and fun together!
Best wishes for a fantastic year ahead!

All students will have their school photos taken during science class on Thursday, Sept 5th during school. If you would like to purchase a photo package, you can do so HERE. If your student does not have a science class at AMS please have them stop by the main office on the 5th to get signed up for a photo timeslot.

AMS Drama Announcement!!
Coming this Fall to the AMS stage is the world premiere of Camp Figaro, written by Mr. Guzik! Anacortes Drama Club will be putting on this incredibly exciting comedy with auditions coming the second week of school on Monday, September 9th and Tuesday, September 10th. The play tells the story of a group of friends and all their hilarious adventures at camp. Paige is out to have the time of her life at summer camp this year! She's going to make her name for herself, get the boy she loves and save the camp! That's right, Camp is going to be shut down by the mob…she thinks. Camp Figaro is a place where teens get to get outdoors, take chances and grow into well rounded human beings provided they can survive the first day!
Last year's Drama Club production had over 100 students sign up to audition!
SIGN UP NOW! AUDITION FORM
Doing a Drama Club Production at AMS is very similar to competing in a sport at AMS. We meet Monday throughThursday weekly from 2:45-4:30 to rehearse. We can work around some scheduling conflicts if they are presented beforehand. For example, I would never want to exclude someone because they had to leave a few minutes early a couple of days a week, provided that it is not during the final couple of weeks of the production. Please review the REHEARSAL SCHEDULE before signing up!
Make sure to join us in the Fall at Camp Fig!

AMS Athletics
We are looking forward to a wonderful year with you! Sports registration opens next week on Thursday, August 22. AMS offers Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country and Track & Field to 7th and 8th graders. We also offer Wrestling which is open to ALL grades (6-8). Anyone interested in joining one of our sports should sign up on FinalForms. FinalForms is our primary form of communication for sports, so please make sure you log in and update all of your information. You can register even if you aren’t 100% sure you want to join the team so that you get any updates about your sport(s) throughout the year. For more information about our sports, please visit the AMS Athletics website HERE. Schedules for each sport will be available on their corresponding page as the seasons get closer to their starting dates.
We have an online store for athletic gear. It will be opening soon as well and we will send out more information about that soon.
First up for sports are Cross Country and Girls’ Soccer.
Co-ed Cross Country runs from September 4 through October 15. Registration closes on September 12. The Student and Parent Information Meeting for Cross Country will be held on the first day of school, September 4, at 3:10pm in the AMS Commons.
Girls' Soccer runs from September 4 through October 16. Registration closes on September 15. The Student and Parent Information Meeting for Girls’ Soccer will also be held on the first day of school, September 4, at 2:50pm in the AMS Gym.
Practice for both of these sports starts on the 2nd day of school, so please pay special attention to the requirements listed below and be sure to complete all requirements before school starts. For anyone that is interested, we will have more information for you about the practice and game/meet schedules at the information meetings.
Reminders for all athletes:
- There are several forms in FinalForms that require review and a digital signature from both the parent and the student. Please log in HERE to sign these forms ASAP. Athletes will not be allowed to participate until these forms have been completed. Students who are NOT new to ASD can log into their email from any computer using Gmail and their ASD email address. NEW students can contact the ASD Technology Department at 360-503-1220 to find out what their new email address and password are. OR students can wait until school starts and complete their forms once their chromebooks have been issued to them.
- Sports Physicals are required prior to the first practice. Physicals are good for 2 years. The completed physical form can be uploaded directly into FinalForms or returned to the AMS front office. You can download a copy of the required Sports Physical Form from our website or you can pick a paper copy up in the AMS front office any time.
If you are having trouble scheduling an appointment with your current health provider, the Island Hospital Walk-In Clinic on M Ave does same-day sports physicals. They are open 7 days a week, 7am-7pm (9am-5pm on Sundays). They recommend NOT visiting on Sundays as that's typically a very busy day and checking to see how full the parking lot is before coming in. They are a walk-in clinic and as such, there may be a lengthy wait if they are busy at the time you arrive. They have sports physical forms available for you to complete in the office. - All Athletes are required to pay a $45 Sports Fee before the first game/meet. Beginning August 22, please click HERE to pay online, call to pay over the phone via credit card, send cash or check with your student to the AMS front office, or drop by to pay in person.
If your student is eligible for Free & Reduced lunch, your sports fees can also be waived, however you will need to have completed an authorization form through the Food and Nutrition Department for that information to be released to AMS Athletics personnel. For more information, visit the Food and Nutrition website HERE or contact Juanita Maltsberger at (360) 503-1377 or jmaltsberger@asd103.org.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to AMS Athletics Admin Assistant, Rachel Esposito, at resposito@asd103.org. Staff will also be available in the AMS Front Office 10am-5pm during Hawk Start Up on August 22 if you'd prefer to chat in person.
