Minges Brook Elementary
November 22, 2024
A message from Principal Fausey:
Dear Minges Brook Families,
I wanted to remind families about how our report cards are scored. The K-4 Report Card marks are attached here in English and additional languages for our families are also available: K-4 အဆင့် အမှတ်အသား ဖော်ပြချက် and グレードマークの説明 and Descripciones de calificaciones
The biggest change to the report card is that each trimester we are indicating where your student is in relation to the end-of-year target for the skill or concept. The goal is for all students to receive a “Meeting the standard,” or a 3, by the end of the year. Students who are on track to meet that goal are likely to have a current mark of “Emerging” (1) or “Developing” (2). Please reach out if you have any questions.
I would like to encourage you all to have your children read in lieu of social media and the internet in general over the long break. We have seen an increase in unhealthy topics and inappropriate language as students spend more time on the internet. Please be mindful of this and encourage books, games, playing outside, or just sitting down for a nice conversation.
I hope you all have a wonderful and peaceful Thanksgiving break!
Take care,
Heather Fausey
MB Proud Principal
Thanksgiving break!!
School will be closed November 25th - 29th. See you December 2nd!
All of us here at Minges Brook want to wish you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving break!
Every Monday, students are dismissed at 2:55.
This is to allow time for additional teacher collaboration and planning.
Parents, please take time to fill out the survey below.
Please take a few minutes to complete our family survey if you have not already done so.
Your feedback will help us improve student success and strengthen our learning environment.
The survey takes less than five minutes to complete. Your time is very much appreciated.
Your responses are confidential, and honest feedback will guide our efforts to create a supportive school environment for everyone.
The surveys are an important part of our strategic planning process. If you have children at more than one Lakeview school, please complete a survey for each school using the survey link specific to that building.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we can make our school the best it can be!
Our trip to Kalamazoo Valley Museum
Minges Brook's Early Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes participated in a field trip to Kalamazoo Valley Museum. Here's just a few of the activities: They had a chance to shop like pioneers, run a news room, gather with historical famous people and do a hands-on STEM activity, where they "cooked" a comet!!
Kalamazoo Air Zoo Aerospace and Science Museum
Our 3rd graders visited the aviation museum and inside amusement park. They learned about many of the historical and rare space aircrafts on display. The museum features over 100 air and space artifacts.

Minges Brook’s Winter Concert
Thursday, Dec 19th at 10:00 a.m.
Lakeview Middle School, 300 S. 28th St.
Building Doors open at 9:40 a.m.
Auditorium doors open at 9:50 a.m.
Guests will enter through the main doors to the auditorium located on 28th St. at the circle drive. Parking there is limited. Please do not park along the sidewalk. If necessary, you can drop off guests and then park in the back lot.
The program will last about 45 min - 1 hour. We would love for you to stay for the whole concert so each grade level experiences the same audience. There is plenty of room and a family friendly event. However, please be considerate of other families and be ready to take fussy children to the lobby.
Students should dress as nicely as they would for picture day. New clothes are not necessary. Please keep in mind that students need to safely step up and down the risers on stage. High heels for girls are not recommended. Also, tall headbands and hats that will block other children’s faces should remain at home.
There will be a minute for pictures after each performance. Students are expected to stay on the risers with their classmates. There isn’t time for individual students to come down to hug families or get individual photos. Also, please save balloons, flowers and other gifts for home. Students have nowhere to put those items.
If you have any questions please call the office at 565-4500 or you can contact Mrs. Ferrill at tferrill@lakeviewspartans.org.
Hope to see you there!

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
The arrival and dismissal procedures are very important in keeping students safe. Please see below for a detailed description:
Arrival:
Students get dropped off by vehicle on Lincoln Hill, right before the driveway to the parking lot. Staff will be there to open car doors and let students out. Please do not get out of the car to assist them. Please drive up to where staff are so the lane does not get too congested.
The parking lot will be blocked off from 8:00-8:25. No one can get in or out of the lot between those times, Minges Brook staff included. The reason being is it causes a safety issue for walkers crossing the lot. Please plan accordingly.
- School doors will open at 8:15
- Students will exit their vehicles and enter the building through the main entrance
- Students will walk directly to their classroom with all of their belongings
- It is very important that students are not dropped off prior to 8:15 as there is limited staff available to supervise before then
Dismissal:
- Students exit the building at 3:25.
- Each teacher has a designated meeting spot in the front of the school for students that are picked up. This will be marked with signage.
- You will need to park and walk up to your child's meeting area.
- When the teacher sees you, he/she will release your child to you. It is important that the teachers see all grown ups before releasing the children. We will not release children to any adult sitting in the car, you must walk up.
- Bus riders will be dismissed with their class and will have a designated place to wait in the upper hallway in single file lines until the buses arrive
- If you are exiting from the parking lot after school, please know that you can only turn right during that busy time. When cars turn left into the heavy traffic, it makes it unsafe for all of us.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the information above.

District Policy regarding recess
Our weather is constantly changing. Please make sure your student(s) are prepared for outdoor recess daily, according to the weather. Please provide appropriate outerwear.
This may include:
*Spring or possibly winter coats
*Hats
*Scarves
*Mittens/Gloves
*Boots
*Snowpants
All students are expected to go outside for recess except if they have a medical reason from your healthcare provider that is documented in writing.
Students are asked to have a change of clothes in their backpack in case of a spill or accident.
The following is our District Policy regarding recess. This is found online in the Student Handbook.
Because of the variability of temperature and other factors (i.e., sunny day or overcast day), the wind chill index is not the only criterion used to determine whether or not children go outdoors for recess. The children will not go outside for recess when the temperature is zero or below. When the temperature is above zero, elementary school personnel will make the decision whether or not to go outside at recess. All students are expected to go outside for recess and, therefore, need to dress appropriately. If a child is well enough to be in school, unless they have a written statement from a physician, the expectation is that they will participate in outdoor recess.
Please feel free to contact the office with any questions/concerns. 269-565-4500.
Attendance Line 269-565-4501
Please make sure you call the attendance line if your student(s) is absent from school. Please call in for each day they miss.
