Character Strong
Our District-Wide Social-Emotional program, Character Strong, is an evidence-based, multi-tiered solution designed to support whole child success. Integrated into morning meeting lessons, Character Strong helps build a sense of community while developing essential life skills.
The aim of education is to prepare young people for success in all areas of life, including academic growth, college and career readiness, and overall life satisfaction. To achieve these goals, Character Strong focuses on three foundational outcomes:
A Sense of Belonging: Fostering an environment where every student feels valued and connected.
Improved Well-Being: Enhancing students' emotional health and resilience.
Increased Engagement: Encouraging active participation and investment in their learning and growth. By addressing these key areas, Character Strong helps lay the groundwork for students' long-term success and fulfillment.
November Character Focus: Gratitude
November Behavior Challenges
November Behavior Challenge!
This November, we're kicking off a new building-wide behavior challenge! Grade levels will work together as a team to reinforce the character traits we've been practicing—kindness, respect, and responsibility. When a grade level is seen demonstrating these positive behaviors, they’ll earn a turkey on their behavior card. Once a card is filled with turkeys, that grade level will earn a special surprise!
Teachers and staff can award turkeys in various school areas like recess, lunch, and the hallways. There’s one twist: grade level teachers can’t award their own grade level for the turkey challenge cards. This will inspire teachers to recognize positive behavior across all grades, boosting our sense of culture and belonging and reinforcing high expectations for everyone.
For individualized recognition this month, students can earn a “turkey” by showing November’s character trait—gratitude. Teachers can recognize ANY student that shows gratitude including those in their classroom and those who are not. This will take the place of the bees that we used in our “bee kind challenge.” These students will get to hold the gratitude sign and have their picture taken and they will receive a small reward. We’re excited to celebrate positive behaviors and strengthen gratitude in our school community!
Books Are Fun-"Book Blast"
Book Blast: Kindergarten through 4th Grade
Last week, we launched our "Book Blast" event in partnership with Books Are Fun! Each student received a treasure map to complete by inviting family and friends to donate in their honor. Thanks to your incredible support, students have had the opportunity to earn free books! The first 190 students to complete their treasure maps even received special prizes.
Today, Mrs. Small revealed the winner of the grand prize treasure chest! Packed with amazing goodies like an Amazon Kindle tablet and a fun taco blanket, this treasure chest was the highlight of the event. Congratulations to Ryder, our lucky winner! (Check out the fun video below of Mrs. Small announcing the winner!)
In addition to rewarding students, we’re also celebrating our teachers! Classrooms with a high percentage of participation in the event will receive a $100 Amazon gift card for their teacher to use for classroom needs—another way this event benefits our school community.
This exciting event not only promotes literacy but also ensures that every student can enjoy new books at home. Thanks to your generosity, Mable Woolsey raised over $23,000 in donations! These funds will help put countless books into the hands of our students, building their personal libraries and fostering a love of reading.
We’ve been blown away by the overwhelming support from our families and community. None of this would be possible without you. Thank you for helping us inspire a passion for reading in our students. We appreciate you more than words can express—thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!
Cold Weather Updates
Dear Families,
As the weather changes quickly this time of year, we want to remind everyone about our coat and jacket policy for outdoor play. It’s important that students come to school prepared for fluctuating temperatures so they can stay comfortable and safe during recess.
Please make sure your child has a warm coat or jacket each day, especially as we head into the colder months. Our outdoor playtime continues unless the weather conditions are unsafe (such as heavy rain, extreme cold, or snow).
If your family needs support in providing cold weather gear for your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to help and will do our best to ensure every student has what they need to stay warm. For more details on our outdoor play requirements, please refer to the graphic below.
Thank you for your help in keeping our students prepared and comfortable for outdoor activities!
PTO Updates
Grandparent's Day Fun
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTO for organizing a wonderful Grandparent’s Day! This special event was a true celebration of some of our students' favorite people, filled with love and joy.
Thank you to all the families and grandparents who joined us, making the day so memorable. We also want to express our gratitude to the teachers for their hard work and dedication—from volunteering and welcoming grandparents into classrooms to helping students create special gifts.
Students had a fantastic time showing their grandparents around the school, working on crafts, playing games, and capturing sweet moments at photo ops. This event was a beautiful way to honor the special bond between students and their grandparents.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a meaningful experience for our students and their families!
November 18-22nd Recap
Friday Assembly
Friday assemblies in the gym are an exciting way for students to kick off their day. The assembly is all about getting pumped up and celebrating the great things that happened throughout the week. Mrs. Small leads the event by reviewing the highlights she observed, announcing birthdays, recognizing positive office referrals, and awarding winner for the Mable Woolsey Way Ticket drawing. Students also get to show their school spirit by clapping along to the school fight song together.

Spirit Days
Battle of the Schools: Food Drive & Spirit Week
This week, students took part in our district-wide food drive, gathering donations for the Knoxville Council of Churches. These contributions will be used to create Christmas food "baskets" for families within our school district. To make the week even more exciting, students participated in a spirit week—check out the pictures below!
Congratulations to Mable Woolsey for winning the food drive challenge! Together we brought in 1, 509 items to donate to the food drive! Our district brought in a total of 2, 936 items. Thank you to our families for helping to brighten the holidays for our neighbors. Your generosity and dedication to modeling and instilling important values in our students, while reinforcing our monthly character traits, are truly appreciated. Way to go Knoxville!!

Family Literacy Night
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Family Literacy Night! A special shoutout goes to Mrs. Hageman and Mrs. Ament for planning this fantastic event, as well as to the incredible teachers and volunteers who made it possible. From planning and organizing to directing, handing out snacks and supplies, or sharing stories as readers, your efforts brought this event to life.
Students had the opportunity to rotate through rooms, enjoying read-aloud stories shared by our staff, school board members, and community members. Dressed in their pajamas and accompanied by their favorite stuffed animals, they experienced the magic of storytelling in a cozy and engaging atmosphere.
Thanks to Mrs. Hageman, at the conclusion of the evening, each student who attended received a new book to take home, fostering a love of reading that will last a lifetime. This event was a true showcase of community pride, collaboration, and family engagement.
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this night so memorable. We appreciate your dedication to inspiring a passion for literacy in our students!

Community Partners
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community partners for their generous donations to support our students. From food and clothing to hygiene products and snacks, these contributions have made a significant difference in the lives of our students and families. We truly appreciate your willingness to step up and lend a helping hand. Your continued support means the world to us, and we are grateful for the positive impact you're making in our school community. Thank you!
Nurse News
Parents, with the changing of the season, the need for Tylenol and Ibuprofen has increased significantly. Unfortunately our supply cannot meet the demand of the students. If your child is one that needs over the counter medications regularly, please bring those items to the school for your student's use. If you would like to make a donation of Tylenol or Ibuprofen to add to our stock, the most used/needed forms are liquid and chewable. We greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter.
