Notes from Principal Savage
MOA Families:
The smell of rain, yellow and red leaves covering lawns, and darker mornings tells us that we are well into fall. This is when the desire to huddle under a cozy blanket starts to take hold and make it more difficult to get the important things done!
Persevere we must! Our September and October attendance numbers look fantastic! I fully anticipate we will continue this trend into the new quarter!
As mentioned last month, our iReady Fall Diagnostic completion in reading and math was way up from last year! Between the two assessments, we averaged a 95% completion rate! This is almost 30% higher than last year. Because we had such a high completion rate, our teachers were able to gain valuable data related to where student skills are now and where we want to go in the future. Plan on discussing your student’s growth goals in reading and math at conferences on November 25th and 26th. Your advisors and our office will be providing you with more details in the near future!
If you have gotten into Synergy since the start of Quarter Two, you should notice that your student not only has periods 0-4, but a period 5 has shown up on their schedule! This period represents the elective or health class your student should be working on in Edgenuity. These classes were assigned several weeks ago, and I have noticed few students have made much (if any) progress. It is my hope that by adding to the student’s schedule, it will help remind them that their school day does not end at noon! Only guided instruction ends at noon. Students should continue to work on their class assignments AND in Edgenuity later in the day. Remember: online learning is not less school! It is school with the flexibility to be more on your schedule.
Please review other parts of this newsletter for important information on upcoming events, semester 2 concurrent enrollment opportunities, winter sports sign-up dates, and a link to our parent engagement survey.
Thank you for all you do to support your student!
Sincerely,
Natosha Savage

Picture Retake Day!
Picture Retake Day is coming on Thursday, November 21, 2:30pm In Oakdale Middle Schools Gym. Lifetouch School Photography, known for capturing school pictures from K-12 nationwide, will take our school photos this year.
We missed you at our Title I annual meeting! Please click to see the MSD Promise and MOA Parent/Teacher/Student agreements!
To fulfill some of our Title I requirements, we must provide you with these documents.
Look for information coming soon about in-person help opportunities funded by our Title I grant!
Federal education law requires all schools receiving Title IA funding to inform parents/guardians of their right to ask about the professional qualifications of their child's teachers and paraprofessionals (also called instruction assistants, education assistants, or a teacher's aide). A paraprofessional provides academic or other support for students under the direct supervision of a teacher.
