A message from Mr. Burkee--
Sophomore year might feel like you are stuck in the middle but remember: it's all part of the journey. You are growing, learning, and becoming the person you're meant to be. Here are four things to keep in mind as you continue this adventure:
Keep Pushing Forward – Sophomore year can feel like you're stuck between being a freshman and stepping into your junior and senior years. But don't get discouraged. Every step you take, no matter how small, is progress. Keep your eyes on the bigger picture, and trust that you're moving forward.
It's Okay to Make Mistakes – High school isn't about being perfect. It's about learning, growing, and improving. Mistakes aren't failures but are actually lessons. Don’t be afraid to take risks and embrace challenges. You’ve got the ability to learn from anything that comes your way.
Balance is Key – Don’t forget to take care of yourself. Schoolwork is important, but so is your well-being. Make time for friends, hobbies, and rest. You’ll be more focused and effective when you find a healthy balance.
Dream Big, Work Hard – Now’s the time to start thinking about what you want for your future. Dream big, but also know that it takes hard work to make those dreams a reality. Every little effort you put in now whether it’s studying, getting involved, or learning new skills will pay off in the long run.

Writing and Math Lab
The Writing and Math Labs are a new resource offered this year to all students here at MHS and have been highly successful during the first quarter.
On November 15th we surpassed 1,200 visits to the lab with 665 to the Math Lab, 166 to the Writing Lab and 369 for test corrections or test makeups/retakes.
During student’s assigned study hall, or in some cases, with the permission of their teacher during a regularly scheduled class, students can come to the labs and work with a teacher to discuss, review, and/or complete a variety of assignments. In addition, teachers can utilize the labs to have students complete make-up work, quizzes, and tests after missing school days due to illness or family vacations. “Feel free to stop by or say hi, sign in, and take advantage of additional writing support beyond the classroom. A huge thank you to Mrs. Blue and the entire administrative team, as well as members of the Mukwonago School Board, for providing students with this amazing opportunity. As always, everyone is welcome.” - Mrs. Bellinger, Literacy Interventionist and Writing Lab Staff during Blue, Green, and Silver blocks
“If you are struggling in your math or English class, I would highly recommend you join so many of your peers in visiting the labs to get assistance as we start to head towards semester final exams!" - Mr Martin, Mathematics Interventionist and Math Lab Staff during Pink, Orange, and Purple blocks.
Organization Tips
Implementing routines in the mornings before school and the afternoon after school helps students stay consistent day-to-day and week-to-week. Write down your general weekly or even daily schedule. Implementing these tips will enable you to get your work done promptly and responsibly. The more consistency your body has, the better you can control your actions.
Avoid multitasking. Multitasking can decrease your productivity and ability to focus. Instead, focus on one assignment at a time. Nothing gets accomplished if you do all of it at one time. Spread it out, take your time, and turn in your best work. Set goals and achievements for yourself and eliminate any distractions.
If you are planning to go somewhere or do something and you know you have an assignment due, Keep your work with you. This way, you can get something done if you have extra time while with friends. Find the time that works best for you and your day-to-day schedule, and always prioritize schoolwork over socializing.
Organization Tips
Organization is crucial for high school students. There are many ways to keep yourself organized. One of the ways to be organized is to use a homework task sheet. Just have somewhere a list of homework you have to do and the due date. This will help students turn in their homework on time and not lose papers.
Don't have a planner or just overall feel out of place? Your phone has a calendar to keep important events or dates so that you keep yourself organized and stress-free. You can even schedule when you would like your phone to remind you about that event so you won't forget.
