A Message from Ms. Vargas
Dear Peirce Families,
We are all officially in the whirlwind that characterizes the final weeks of school. The frenzied pace of so many end of year activities can be both joyful and challenging. Still, we have much to celebrate at Peirce. Whether welcoming new kindergarten families, honoring the many cultures of Peirce, listening to the music of spring concerts, or taking to the field for Color Day, I welcome the moments we join together to recognize the attributes and achievements of our school community.
I hope you have all enjoyed a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend!
Warm Regards,
Andrea Vargas
Multicultural Night 2024
Color Day is Coming Up!
WHEN: Wednesday, June 5 th (Rain Date – Wednesday, June 12th)
WHERE: Peirce School Field
TIME: 9:00 – 12:15
WHAT IS COLOR DAY? Color Day is an event designed to bring a nice ending to the school year by providing some unity, through recreation and physical activity, with all members of the school involved. The two major ingredients are: First, everyone gets to participate, and secondly, competition is kept to a minimum. I am actively recruiting parent volunteers to work at the various activities. No experience is necessary and on the job training will be provided.
PLEASE NOTE: An updated CORI/SORI Form needs to be on file with the main
office before volunteering.
Volunteers are asked to report to the Peirce Field at 8:30 for assignments.
Please look at the activity list to select what activity you will be helping
with. I would like to have at least 2-volunteers for each activity.
Please reach out to Mr. Nye with any questions – Thank you!

Fee Waiver for 2024-25 School Year
The Newton Public Schools provides financial assistance so that all students can utilize bus transportation and participate in school activities, regardless of financial need. To facilitate this financial support, families need to apply for district-wide financial assistance each year.
The application for the 2024-2025 district-wide financial assistance waiver is now available in Aspen. We encourage you to apply now so that your waiver is in place for registrations that may take place in the summer (bus, fall athletic fees, etc.) Visit the fee waiver information and instructions webpage to apply via the Aspen portal. The instructions for completing the form in Aspen are here:
S.P.A.C.E Camp
Newton’s S.P.A.C.E. is a summer enrichment program run by the Newton Public Schools. Camp dates are July 2nd to July 25th, 2024. Students entering kindergarten through 9th grade in the Fall of 2024 are eligible to attend. We offer two programs - an upper camp (entering 5th grade-entering 9th grade in the Fall of 2024) and a lower camp (entering kindergarten-entering 4th grade).
LOWER CAMP - Campers are assigned age-appropriate classes led by elementary school teachers, through project-based learning, challenges, and activities that focus on our camp theme. Each summer a new theme is chosen. Lower Camp has a co-taught model with two teachers and one counselor. Special attention is given to individual students by maintaining a low student-to-teacher ratio. Lower Campers will also attend various specials throughout the week led by certified staff. In past years, specials have included physical education, art, yoga, and science..
UPPER CAMP - Campers will create their own schedules by choosing from a vast amount of electives to design their own camp program. S.P.A.C.E. Upper Camp has over 50 electives for students, including art studios, performing arts, athletics, STEM activities, and language arts.
Check out the S.P.A.C.E.website for more information or REGISTER NOW!

FUN RUN Fundraiser
For those new to the community, Peirce holds an annual Fun Run on Color Day in which the children run laps around the field in a “marathon” to raise money for a special cause. The Peirce PTO Community Impact Committee is excited to announce that this year in honor of Mr. Nye’s last year, we will be supporting an organization of Mr. Nye’s choice – New England Wildlife Centers. To support this effort, please work with your children to ask family, friends and neighbors to sponsor their participation in the Fun Run with a donation. For more information and a copy of the pledge form, please click here. Hard copies will be sent home in folders next week.
All donations due on/by Friday, June 14th. We will announce the final amount raised once tallied and send all donations directly to New England Wildlife Center.
Please have your child put their collected donations and pledge form in an envelope labeled with their first and last name and drop off with Mrs. Carey in the front office. Remember to include the pledge form even if donations have been made electronically.
Thank you for your support and please email Noreen Herzog (noreenmartinherzog@gmail.com) or Alma Adler (alma.adler@gmail.com) with any questions. Save the Date - Family Dance Friday, June 21
