2024-2025 School District Calendar Approved

VIEW 2024-25 CALENDAR During the February 26th Board of Education meeting, the 2024-2025 D123 academic school calendar was approved. Some highlights from the calendar include: The school year will start with two days of staff institutes; August 19 and 20. The first day of student attendance will be Wednesday, August 21st and will be a half day from 8:30-11:30 am.

D123 Alumni Recognized as Illinois State Scholars at Richards High School

Ten of the 26 Illinois State Scholars at Richards High School are Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 alumni. Only seniors who rank in the top half of their graduating class and score in the 95th percentile of the ACT or SAT are eligible to receive this recognition from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.

Leaping Into Math & PE

Hannum families were invited to Leap Into Math and PE this past Wednesday evening. The idea was to incorporate math with some movement from our PE experts, Mr. Lazzorotto and Mr. Fanjoy. Mr. Strickland was stationed at the Leap Frog station where students took a frog and made it hop.

Future Friday

To celebrate District 123 Kindness Week, students were asked to participate in a very fun spirit week. Students dressed in school spirit wear, wore red and pink for Valentine's Day, and even wore their favorite hat. The best day of the spirit week, however, was Future Friday.

Simple Machines, They're Everywhere!

Last week Kolmar students had a blast at their "Mousetrap" assembly. Mr. Smarty Pants, the assembly leader, helped them learn all about different simple machines. Students learned about how simple machines work, what they look like, and where they might find them in their everyday lives!

Students Learn Cooking for Life Skills and Independence

At OLHMS, cooking lessons aren't just about food-they're about teaching kids important skills and how to do things on their own. With teachers' help, students learn how to use their hands well, do things in order, understand numbers, work with others, and manage their homes.

Share Your Thoughts on D123 School Lunches

Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123's food service provider, Arbor Management Inc., wants to hear feedback from families on school breakfast and lunches. Families of elementary school students can fill out this survey, an anonymous questionnaire to help improve the school lunch program. Please complete the survey by March 15.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey

Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 is conducting the 12th annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey, in collaboration with the Illinois State Board of Education, to evaluate school climate and learning conditions. All D123 schools must have a minimum amount of participation in the survey to receive results.

The survey, open from January 30 to March 29, invites students (grades 4-8), teachers, and parents to provide feedback aimed at enhancing educational experiences and the school community. Focusing on five critical aspects—Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environment, and Ambitious Instruction—the survey results will contribute to the 2024 School and Illinois State Report Card, ensuring anonymity for all participants. Those wishing their student not to participate must submit an opt-out form to their child's school office by February 9, 2024.
