Cell Phones and Smart Watches in D48
All cell phones and smart watches must be powered down and stored in their locker upon entering the building for the entire school day.
Phones have been installed in every classroom and students can contact you quickly when necessary. If you need to contact your child throughout the day - we will ask that you call the office and we will make sure to communicate the information to your child.
Any student found to have a Cell Phone or a Smart Watch on them will be asked to turn it off and bring it to the office. The student may pick up the device from the office at the end of the day as they exit the building.
Thank you in advance for supporting our tech-free distractions to support our student's learning environment.
Upcoming Exterior Construction at District 48 Schools - Spring Break & Summer
Exterior Construction at Stella May Swartz - Starting Monday April 7, 2025
Starting over Spring Break, the construction fencing will be going up outside of the school at the East end of the building. The only impact this will have on Swartz will be:
- Staff parking on Elder Lane will be fenced off and all parking will be in the West Lot.
- Doorway 10 will be closed for staff entry and exit and student exit to busses
Please keep in mind that Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick Up will remain in place along Elder Lane.
Parking will be extremely limited in the West side/Gym parking lot - please use the designated drop off and pick up procedures along Elder lane to minimize traffic in this lot.
Picture below shows where the fencing will be upon return from Spring Break.

No SummerU This Year (summer school)
As families begin making their summer plans, we are sorry to inform you that we will not offer a SummerU program like in recent years. We cannot have our typical summer programming in any of our buildings due to construction. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and look forward to returning to our SummerU program for the summer of 2026. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me, Chris Martelli - Director of Curriculum and Instruction, at cmartelli@saltcreek48.org.
News from the Nurse
Student Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures
Please follow the guidelines below to keep drop off/pick up running smoothly. Students can enter the building at 7:30 AM. Morning supervision ends with a 7:40 AM bell and all doors will be closed. Pick Up time is 2:20 PM.
- Pull up as far as you can to allow multiple cars to unload at one time. Cones will be out for the last few parking spaces to help with this.
- Stay in single line (no double rows).
- Use Monterey to proceed to the line. Do not turn down Elder and turn around in a resident's driveway.
- Drive the speed limit when driving on Monterey and any streets around the school.
- Do not park on the east side of the building. This can be very dangerous, it blocks traffic and slows down the line.
- Do not wait and watch your child enter the building. If you need to watch your child enter the building, please park on the west side of the building and walk your child to the front entrance. We have a supervisor on duty from 7:30-7:40 am.
- If you do not see supervision in the back and it is after 7:40 AM you must then park your car in the west side parking lot, walk to the front door with your student(s) and buzz the front door to sign them. All parents must sign their student(s) in at the office.
