SHS Weekly Update
August 31st, 2024
Principal's Update
Maintaining an environment that in which students feel safe, valued is important to us at SHS. This includes an effective Positive Behavior Intervention System that provides support based behavioral programming while also still ensuring that consequences still matter for students who violate our code of conduct. I have put a video of Friday's name that tune below and a better explanation of what PBIS is as well. I hope everyone has a great 3 day weekend on this Labor Day.

It is important to note the following for those that qualify for Reduced Lunches in the 2024-2025 school year: The recently passed Ohio biennial budget includes a provision for the State to pay the meal charges for Reduced students ($0.30 for Breakfast and $0.40 for Lunch) effectively allowing them to eat for free. This will be in effect for the 2024-2025 school year.

Stohigan Release Party
Friday students got their yearbooks at a release party. The award winning yearbook was the buzz of the school.
PSAT
PSAT/NMSQT will be offered at Strongsville High School on October 10th. The PSAT is a digital test. Students will need to make sure that they have registered for a College Board account in order to be able to take this exam. This is very important - without this account students will be unable to view the results of the exam. Registration opens Tuesday, August 27th and ends Sunday September 8th at 11:59 pm.
SHS CERAMICS CLASS COMPETES IN “CLAY OLYMPICS”
Students in Mrs. Gary’s and Mrs. Ganim’s Ceramics Classes at SHS competed in their very own “Clay Olympics” this past week. Among the “Olympic Events” for teams of students were building the tallest tower and sculpting the largest bowl. These challenges taught students the different properties of clay and how to work with clay, lessons that they can build on for their upcoming projects this semester!

Senior Trip to DC
The sign up for this trip will be shut off on Tuesday morning.
We are gauging interest in a Washington DC trip for Seniors. Our current senior class missed out on the trip due to the pandemic. I am attaching a survey for those interested. Costs, dates, and other details will be out once we have an idea of how many students would like to go. We are likely looking at late February/early March and a Friday through Sunday trip.
The sign up can only be accessed by the student's SCS account.

Attention all band and orchestra parents! The communication tool that your directors use to share information with you has changed for the 24/25 school year. Instead of emails being sent to you from the secretary of the Strongsville Instrumental Music Boosters, (SIMB), you will now receive the updates via text message. The text will state that it is from SIMB. This message will ask you to click on a link in order to open the message. This is a safe link! Once you click on the link you will see your student's name. Click on their name and the message will open for you to read. Again, this is a change to our communication process and the text and all links it contains are safe.
Please remember that along with these text messages you and your student still need to make sure that you are signed up for your specific band or orchestra Remind and that your student checks their respective Google Classroom for updates as well.
