Principal's Desk
Dear CMIT South Elementary Families,
"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed." These words from Booker T. Washington perfectly capture the spirit I see in our scholars every day. Your children's dedication to overcoming challenges and achieving new heights continues to inspire us. Their persistence in the face of obstacles, whether mastering a difficult math concept or completing a challenging science project, demonstrates the truth of Washington's wisdom. Your partnership in their education journey makes a meaningful difference in their growth and success.

Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays are so much fun to celebrate with classmates. However, during the school day, the health and safety of each student are important, especially students with food allergies. Students are ONLY permitted to bring in NON-FOOD items to distribute to classmates at the end of the school day. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping all of our students safe at CMIT South ES.
Additionally, please note that teachers and staff are unable to participate in distributing communications/invitations or email addresses related to birthday celebrations. All planning for birthdays needs to happen outside of school so that it does not take away from the purpose of instruction.

KVS
KVS is our school's dismissal tool for car riders. All parents MUST fill out their KVS number when picking up their scholar. It is imperative that numbers are entered once you reach the car line. If your scholar is a car rider, please take time to help him or her practice memorizing his or her number as this will make the dismissal process much quicker!

We are also discussing how to make smart, confident choices in the face of peer pressure. Students are practicing role-playing scenarios to help them stand firm and say “no” when faced with decisions that could negatively impact their health or well-being.
Encourage your child to share what they’ve learned with you! Reinforcing these conversations at home helps build their confidence and decision-making skills. Together, we can empower students to prioritize their health and make positive choices.
CARTS
PE:
This week in PE, we played a fun and active game of 4 Corners! Each corner of the gym had a different physical activity, and students took turns rotating through all four stations. Activities included jumping jacks, hula hooping, running sprints, and a balancing challenge. The kids had a blast staying active, challenging themselves, and cheering each other on as they moved from one station to the next. It was a great way to keep everyone engaged and energized while working on different skills!
Maker’s Lab:
Hello All, Due to the shortened week caused by weather, we adapted our Makers Lab lesson to focus on weather and weather advisories. The students watched an informative video that explored different types of weather conditions and how weather advisories help keep us safe. This was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about the world around them and how we can stay informed during changing weather patterns. We look forward to getting back to our regular activities next week!
Media/Library: This week in Library class, we introduced the students to next week's project, where they will be learning how to find clues in a book. We discussed the importance of paying attention to details in the text and how clues can help us understand the story better. The students practiced identifying key information, such as descriptive words or phrases, that give hints about the plot, characters, and setting. This was a fun and interactive session to help them develop stronger reading comprehension skills, and they are excited to dive deeper into their project next week!
Technology:
This week in Technology class, since it was a testing week, we focused on helping students develop techniques to approach their tests with confidence. We discussed strategies for staying organized, managing time effectively, and reading instructions carefully. I also emphasized the importance of taking deep breaths and staying calm during the test. The students practiced some simple techniques to help them focus, like reviewing questions before answering and breaking down more challenging problems into smaller steps. It was a productive session aimed at giving them the tools to succeed during testing and beyond!
Art:
Last Friday was the opening reception for the Nature Quest Art Show at Harmony Hall. Here are pictures of Makayla A. and Isla P. with their winning work!
Music:
Can you believe we're almost in 3rd quarter? This quarter brings great excitement for our 3rd and 4th graders who will begin playing recorder. Recorders can be purchased from your local Walmart, Target, Music & Arts, Amazon, and Guitar Center to name a few. Recorder cost ranges from $5 to $10. PLEASE do NOT pay more than that for this very simplistic instrument. It should come with a case. Please be sure to label it with your child's name and grade. Please feel free to contact me via email if you have any questions.
