HIGHLIGHTING DIVERSE LITERATURE: The LHS National English Honor Society (NEHS) recently hosted a Social Justice Read-In with participation from the high school's multicultural clubs. The event aimed to highlight diverse literature and included book talks, an open mic, live music and food generously donated by local restaurants! The NEHS co-advisors are Dr. Michael R. Suñga and Jackie Pascale.

INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT TO BE APPOINTED
PUBLIC INVITED TO APRIL 30TH "MEET & GREET"
BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING: April 30 (7PM)
The Livingston Board of Education will hold a public meeting tonight, Tuesday, April 30, 2024 (7PM) at the Central Office, 11 Foxcroft Drive.
Tonight's meeting will be held in a hybrid format during which participants will have the ability to ask questions and make comments either in person or via the webinar. DISTRICT ART SHOW MAY 15- JUNE 2
An opening reception for the annual district art exhibit, "Art Through the Ages" will be held on Wednesday, May 15, at 6PM. The exhibit, which will include the artwork of LPS K-12 students, will remain on display on the upper and lower levels and in the center court of the Livingston Mall through Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Members from Livingston High School Ecolancers recently participated in the Shell Eco-marathon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis. Students were challenged to design a super-mileage vehicle that uses a small internal combustion engine and meets a specific set of criteria the engineers at Shell set to compete for the highest miles per gallon. Students competed against college universities and high schools from the US, Canada, and Brazil in this year's US competition held at Indy Speedway. READ MORE...
MIDDLE SCHOOLS TAKE TOP MATH LEAGUE SPOTS!
LPS middle schools had great success in this year's New Jersey Math League (NJML) competition! The New Jersey Math League is a competition in which students answer challenging math questions that expand upon their knowledge of Pre-Algebra (grade 6 competition), Algebra (grade 7 competition) and Geometry (grade 8 competition)
MT. PLEASANT MIDDLE RESULTS
Mt. Pleasant Middle School (MPMS) finished in first place in the league out of 85 schools! This means they also took first place in the region.
Individual regional results included Advait Joshi finishing in second place, Patrick Gao finishing in third place, and Darsh Thakur taking fourth place.
For the state, Advait Joshi earned a second place finish, while Patrick Gao finished in fifth place and Darsh Thakur finished in seventh place.
HERITAGE MIDDLE RESULTS
For Grade 7, Heritage Middle School (HMS) placed fifth in the state (out of 78 schools) and second in Essex County! Seventh grader Dhrish Viswanath tied for third place in the region and tied for sixth place in the state.
For Grade 8, HMS placed second in the state (out of 68 schools) and second in Essex County. Atiksh Akunuri tied for first place in the state and first place in the region. Anubhav Dey and Andrew Zhou tied for ninth place in the state and fourth place in the region.
Angelina Rodriguez, PreK-6 Mathematics Supervisor and Antonio Matheus 7-12 Mathematics Supervisor, praised the students for their hard work and love of math, and thanked their teachers for supporting them!
FUTURE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS EARN AWARDS
Twenty three members of the LHS HOSA club (Future Health Professionals) along with their advisors, Bobbi Bremmer and Mary Kaspriskie, recently attended and competed at the NJ State HOSA Leadership Conference in March. Ten students earned medals and qualified to compete at the HOSA ILC (International Leadership Conference) in Houston, Texas, June 2024.
The team of Abe Klein, Daniela Lavien, Stacey Nayak, Yash Naidu, Juliana Scherr, and Stacey Teytel earned first place Public Service Announcement. Julie Chua earned a second place finish in Dental Sciences Secondary. The team of Ari Kestenbaum, Tvisha Rheiky, and Lucy Yu won second place in Health Education.
In addition, sophomore Tvisha Rheiky was elected as NJ State HOSA President Elect for 2024-2025 and will be NJ State HOSA President in 2025-2026.
LHS SUCCEEDS AT NJ FBLA LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Livingston High School’s FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) chapter recently brought its record-breaking high of 79 students to the 2024 New Jersey State Leadership Conference (SLC) held in Atlantic City, attracting nearly 3,000 state qualifiers and competitors across NJ. LHS had 11 national qualifiers (top 4 placers) and 26 finalists (top 10 placers) for a total of 37 state finalists. The national qualifiers will attend the National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Orlando, Florida this June!

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS EXPLAIN WHY VOTING MATTERS
In commemoration of National High School Voter Registration Week, the Student Chapter of the League of Women Voters with volunteers from the Democrats Club and Republican Club conducted voter registration every day during lunch and after school from April 15th to April 19th. The chapter registered over 40 students to vote and distributed information related to upcoming election dates and deadlines. The Student Chapter of the League of Women Voters also invited the parent Livingston League of Women Voters and the Montclair League of Women Voters to present an engaging and interactive "Why Voting Matters" voter education module at Livingston High School, which was well-attended.

The district provides free transportation for in-district students who live more than 2 miles from school in grades K-8; and more than 2.5 miles from the high school. Subscription busing is available for students who are not eligible for free busing. If you are unsure if you qualify for free transportation, please call the Transportation Department at 973-535-8000, x8013, BEFORE filling out the form.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
REMINDER: COMPLETE KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION BY MAY 15TH TO FIND OUT SCHOOL PLACEMENT BY JUNE 1ST!
- Children must be 5 years old on or before October 1st of the current year to enter Kindergarten, or 6 years old by October 1st of the current year to enter 1st grade as per Entrance Age Policy 5112. View Entrance Age Policy #5112.
- Any Livingston resident who completes the kindergarten registration process by May 15th will be notified of their child's school placement by June 1st.
- If your child currently attends the Livingston Public School Pre-School program you DO NOT have to complete the pre-registration online. Please contact Amy Ennis at aennis@livingston.org for instructions.

LHS CLUB TO HOST RN PANEL
Livingston High School's HOSA (Future Health Professionals) Club will host a "Panel Discussion With RNs" on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 5PM in the LHS Auditorium. Presented by the Community Health & Outreach Department of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, the program will include registered nurses from five different disciplines. This event is free and all are welcome to attend.

Bronawyn O'Leary Completes Boston Marathon
CONGRATULATIONS TO Mt. Pleasant Middle School principal Mrs. Bronawyn O'Leary who completed the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15th!
Finishing in a time of 3:14:25, she placed 40th out of 1,808 in her gender/age division! (5,565th out of 26,468 overall; and 786th out of 11,411 females)

SPRING PARTY FOR SPECIAL NEEDS FAMILIES
The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) and the Recreation and Senior Services Department (formerly known as SYLS) will co-sponsor a Spring Party for children and adults with special needs and their families. This free, fun-filled event will take place at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave., Livingston, NJ on Saturday, May 4, from 12 to 2PM. Guests will be treated to food, beverages, dancing to a deejay's music, and an arts and crafts program. We kindly ask that everyone bring a dessert. LACD TALENT SHOW
The LACD (Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities) is bringing back its annual talent show for children and adults with special needs on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 7PM. This free of charge event will take place in room T3 at the Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave. We welcome our special needs population to showcase their individual talents and shine in the spotlight. TEAM JAKE FUNDRAISER
LHS alumni and student baseball/softball players will be running an All Star Baseball/Softball Clinic Fundraiser for Team Jake at Meadowbrook Field on June 2, 2024 at 4:30PM. The clinic is for boys and girls age 5-12 , and will support Trial Blazers for Kids Foundation and celebrate Jake’s love of baseball.
2024 LPD Junior Police Academy
The 2024 Livingston Police Department Junior Police Academy will be held from July 8-12 at Livingston High School located at 30 Robert Harp Drive and Livingston Police Headquarters at 333 S. Livingston Avenue. Applications will be accepted starting March 1, 2024 via email to jklapal@livingstonnj.org with a deadline of April 30, 2024. Priority will be given to students who have not attended the academy previously
