Message from Deputy Lopez
Did you know that driving with your phone in hand is considered distracted driving? In fact, using a handheld device in any way while driving is illegal. This includes activities like setting up a map route, texting, changing your music, or making a call.
Distracted driving is a growing issue, and it's dangerous. Drivers who are on their phones are more likely to leave the roadway or collide with other vehicles or objects. Even looking at your phone for just a second can seriously affect your reaction time.
Let’s imagine you’re driving down I-75 at 70 MPH (I know you all obey the speed limit!). At that speed, you travel the length of two football fields in just 2.6 seconds. That’s how quickly things can change when you're distracted. Think about that the next time you’re on the road and your phone rings or you want to change the song.
Let’s all do our part to stay safe on and off the road. Drivers, remember to keep your phone out of reach unless you're safely parked. Passengers, help by keeping your driver focused on the road!
Happy Holidays and enjoy your well deserved break!

Traver Talk
As we approach the end of 2024, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to each of you for making this school year a fantastic start. Your energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to learning have not gone unnoticed, and it's truly inspiring to witness the growth and achievements of our student body.
As we transition into the new year, it's always a great time for refresh and reflection. This month, our data dive focuses on student behavior. Attached below is a chart displaying the referral data at CHS for this year.
Referral Data Overview:
- Cell Phones: This category has generated the largest number of referrals. Please remember our policy: students are expected to keep their phones out of sight during class to ensure a focused learning environment.
- Classroom Disruptions: The next highest categories include disruptions, disrespect, and inappropriate language in the classroom, contributing to a total of almost 200 referrals to date.
We believe in fostering a learning environment where respect, responsibility, and positivity set the tone. Our behavior matrix emphasizes the values of being Positive, Respectful, Independent, Dependable, and Engaged. We encourage all students to embody these principles as we move forward together.
Thank you for your continued commitment to making CHS a wonderful place to learn. Let's make the coming year even better!
Wishing you all a joyful holiday season.
Mrs. Rachel Traver
Assistant Principal
Principal's Points
I would like to take this time to wish all students, staff, parents, and community members a wonderful holiday season. It’s hard to believe that we are approaching the end of our first semester for this school year! Please take this time to enjoy special moments with family and friends, catch up on some much-needed rest, and prepare for 2025!
As a calendar reminder, please note the following dates for our return to school in January:
- Monday, January 6th: Students and staff return to school.
- Monday, January 20th: Staff Professional Development (No School for students)
- Tuesday, January 21st: Early Release Day
- Wednesday, January 22th: High School Exams (full day of school for students)
- Thursday, January 23rd: High School Exams (½ day of school for students)
- Friday, January 24th: High School Exams (½ day of school for students)
As you can see, we will be hitting the ground running when we return and we will have a short window of time to prepare for semester exams. Please, students, come back to school ready to learn on January 6th, as each day leading up to your exams will be important preparation for all of you to be successful.
Another important practice as we enter 2025 is to set new goals. A new year brings new opportunities and setting goals allows us to shrink our focus and make intentional progress toward an identified challenge. It is not the end result that makes this journey a success, but rather the road traveled in which to get to the end goal. Dare to achieve! Trust yourself!
Never give up! 2025 is going to be a fantastic year.
