CGS Parents, if you are in need of assistance with creating or accessing your child's Power School account, please use this form. The Parent Portal through Power School is a great way to get live updates as to how your student is progressing in their classroom studies.

CGS Parents, beginning next school year (2025-2026), our school and all remaining schools still utilizing PowerSchool as our student information system will all be transitioning to a new student information system called, Infinite Campus. We will be sending out more information as to how to utilize this new system and the benefits this new system will offer. We as a school are in the beginning stages of training and will be training our teachers this semester and over the summer in preparation for this change over. We will be training our students/families as well as we receive more information about the new system.

We are in Phase II and many schools transitioned during Phase I, so we are excited to be on the second phase of this roll out and be able to learn from other school systems that have already changed over and have been actively utilizing the new system.

The first "migration" of information from PowerSchool over to Infinite Campus will begin soon. This will not impact our use of the program, but if you get any emails or notification that your account has been "deleted" please forward that email to Ms. Walther at marissawalther@cgsnc.org.

K-8: School starts at 7:45 A.M. and ends at 2:45 P.M.

(students may arrive as early as 7:15 A.M.)

9-12: School starts at 8:00 A.M. and ends at 3:00 P.M.

Greetings Grizzly Families,

We hope you have had a wonderful weekend. This week is National School Choice Week. We will be celebrating through a spirit week. Please encourage your students to wear their favorite thinking cap/hat on Monday, white on Tuesday, dress as their favorite superhero on Wednesday, and wear their CGS gear or school colors on Thursday.

Rising 11th and 12th Graders Interested in the Career & College Promise (CCP) Program at ACC

Are you interested in the dual enrollment program at ACC? CGS is hosting an information session with an ACC representative for rising 11th and 12th graders on January 27th at 6pm in the commons area on the HS campus. Dr. Morris and Mrs. Walther will meet with eligible students to complete the application process soon.

If you're unable to make it to the CGS session, here is another opportunity to gather information. ACC is having an information session for students and families to learn about the Career & College Promise (CCP) program at Alamance Community College. This dual enrollment program offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credits for free while still in high school. During the session, ACC will provide information about eligibility, the benefits of participation, and how to apply.

This session will be an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about how CCP can help your student get a head start on their college education. We encourage you to attend and bring any questions you might have!

Important Upcoming Dates:

• February 17: CCP office will start accepting applications for Fall 2025 semester Visit our website for application information.

• February 10: Applications due for NEW students who want to take a Spring 2025 second 8-week course. Second 8-week courses begin on March 10.
• April 11: Applications due for NEW students who want to take a Summer 2025 course. Summer courses begin May 21.
  (Student must be officially classified as 11th grade on their transcript to be eligible for 2nd 8-week Spring or Summer 2025)

• Current CCP students can still register for Spring second 8-week and Summer courses. They should reach out to their advisor to get registered.

ROBOTICS CLUB

We are excited to announce the start of a robotics club facilitated by Mrs. Nall. The club will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4:30pm beginning the week of February 10th. Students must have transportation and a signed permission form. Participation is limited so please see Mrs. Nall for questions or to sign-up.

ASVAB Update

Unfortunately, we do not have enough participants to offer the ASVAB this year. It is our hope to offer it next year to our 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students.

Senior Parents: (DEADLINE EXTENDED)

If you are interested in purchasing an ad for your senior, the deadline is February 28, 2025. A full page ad is $110.00 and includes up to 12 photos. A 1/2 page ad is $55.00 and includes up to 6 photos. Just go to yearbookforever.com and upload your photos and message. DRIVER EDUCATION ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATES:

If you are in need of a driver education eligibility certificate, please email Mrs. Simpson (margaretsimpson@cgsnc.org, Dr. Morris (karenmorris@cgsnc.org), and Mrs. Gladden (elizabethgladden@cgsnc.org) to have one drafted and set a time to meet for completion. We need at least 48 hours notice before we can draft this document and have it ready for pick up. This document requires a parent/guardian to come to the school for completion and is good for 30 days.

We will be offering a FREE ACT Prep class to our juniors at CGS in preparation for the official assessment on March 11th, 2025. Mr. Cheek has graciously offered to provide this study prep for our students and we think they will benefit greatly from his expertise in this area. Thank you Mr. Cheek! He will be in touch with our juniors. All currently enrolled juniors in Math III will be offered this prep session during their regularly scheduled school day. All juniors who are not currently enrolled in Math III will be given an after school opportunity for this prep session. We are grateful for an opportunity for our students to practice skills that they will be tested on the upcoming ACT.

ACT scores are very important to the college admission process and students need to do their best on this national assessment to be considered strong candidates for college acceptance.

Shout out to Mrs. Dollyhigh and our Student Council for hosting a fantastic Semi-Formal Dance Saturday night at our K-8 Campus. The kids had a wonderful time and enjoyed the night! Thank you to all of our faculty/staff and parents that helped set up, clean up, or chaperone! We greatly appreciate all of our Grizzlies for volunteering their time to help host a fun event for our students!

We are so excited to celebrate National School Choice Week NEXT WEEK! In honor of the week, we are having a Spirit Week and a few activities during the week to celebrate being a school of choice! What: Family Game and Karaoke Night for all families grades K-12. Families will be invited to the school and three locations will be designated for Board Games and Bingo (little gym), Karaoke (cafeteria), and P.E. Games (big gym). There will be refreshments provided. Prizes will be given for the Bingo games.

Why: It's important for us to build community within our school! We want to use National School Choice Week as an opportunity to come together and build relationships within our school community and remind our CGS community how valuable it is to have School Choice options for our students and their education! We celebrate being a charter school of CHOICE this week! FernLeaf Community Charter School, which teaches over 430 K-4 students, was severely affected by catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Helene. To help them recover and ensure students can keep learning, donations are being collected through fundraisers and an Amazon Wish List.

Jr. Civitans, partnering with Mr. Graham's mentorship program, have adopted the school. They are collecting essential supplies to aid the school's recovery, and you can help through donation links and a general Amazon Wish List.
