A Message from Our School Nurse
Influenza, stomach virus/flu, and head lice season are upon us! Here is a friendly reminder from your child’s school nurse:
Influenza symptoms are; fever, cough, and/or sore throat, headache, and body aches. Please do not send your child to school with these symptoms. Please do not give your child fever reducing medication (such as Tylenol, Advil, Motrin) in the morning and send them to school. Students need to be fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication to return to school.
Stomach virus/flu symptoms are; cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It lasts from 24 hours to several days. Please keep your child home if he/she has these symptoms. Students need to be free of diarrhea and vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school.
Things you and your family can do to try to stay healthy:
Wash your hands with soap and water and/or use hand sanitizer frequently
Keep hands away from the face - mouth, nose, eyes
Get flu vaccinations
Please be advised, it is always a good idea while your child is in grade school, to periodically check his or her head for lice. Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children, and to not share combs, brushes, hair ties, hats, etc..
Please feel free to call your child’s school nurse, JoElda Lopez, RN, with any questions anytime at 755-7621. Thank you!
