Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings Hembree Families,
STEM and STAR night was a huge success. Thanks so much to all the families who came out to support the event. It is so special to see the community engaging in school activities. Last weekend was challenging and scary for our community. I want to thank you all for the emails and for voicing your concerns. Roswell PD has been responsive and present this week. Please continue to help us with safety. As you continue to visit the school building, please be prepared to present your photo ID and state the purpose for your visit. The safety of our students and staff is our utmost priority. While you may be inclined to be courteous and show hospitality by holding the door for a person behind you, please do not do so. Our staff must verify all individuals visiting our school through our established protocols. Thank you in advance for assisting us by complying with our safety practices at Hembree.
DID YOU KNOW?
Fulton County Schools uses the Centegix badging system for safety measures. Every staff member wears this badge at all times. There are two signals from the badge that can be deployed. Three clicks is for a medical or discipline emergency only. The system allows us to see the exact location of the emergency. Eight or more clicks puts the building into lockdown. The staff has been trained on the Centegix system and it is used for severe emergencies.
CURRICULUM HUB
The Fulton County Parent Curriculum Hub is loaded with useful information and resources for your families to help with understanding curriculum expectations for each grade level. You may follow this link to access this valuable resource https://safari.fultonschools.org/PORTAL
One of the ways we communicate our students’ success is through progress reports. Our first progress reporting period is upon us. You may view your child’s progress report in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal on Friday, September 13, 2024.
CARPOOL REMINDERS
Please remember to leave your carpool sign up until your child gets in the car in the afternoon. This helps us make carpool run more efficiently. Thanks for helping us.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Please take our quick 2024-26 Excellence Survey!
HSES PTA is working hard to earn our 2024-26 National PTA School of Excellence designation, putting another feather in our achievement cap. But more importantly, we want to create transformative and long-lasting improvements! We want Hembree Springs Elementary to be the best it can be.
One of the first steps is the PTA School of Excellence Survey filled out by our wonderful parents. We had 36 parents fill it out at the Back to School Picnic -- thank you! We're hoping to get 150.
This survey takes less than 5 minutes to fill out -- I can attest because I timed it. The survey results are anonymous and will be used to determine areas for growth and engagement programs for the year. Please give it to us straight -- BE HONEST when you're ranking each question's answer. It will help us improve!

From Title I
Thank you so much to those of you who were able to join us for STEM Night! It was great to share our schoolwide Number Talk Initiative with you. For those of you who missed the presentation (or need a recap), a number talk is a daily numeracy routine meant to build fluency and flexibility with mathematical thinking. This initiative is the result of seeing schoolwide areas of need around mental math strategies and number sense. During a number talk, teachers present a problem, accept responses, record student thinking(strategies), and agree upon the correct answer. The goal is to improve critical thinking and to understand the relationships/patterns within the mathematical world! Please look through the presentation and examples for ways that you can foster number sense at home! And as always, please reach out to me with any questions or support. My email address is wallerj@fultonschools.org
Thank you, Joey Waller (K-5 Math Coach)

PTA Reflections Contest Kicks Off Sept. 6
The PTA Reflections Program is kicking off Sept. 6 and this is a great chance for your budding artist/writer/photographer/actor/orator to show off their skills.
This year's theme is "Accepting Imperfection," a great mantra we could all take to heart! The kickoff marks the official start when students can begin to work on their submissions.
Workshops are scheduled in the HSES Cafeteria from 7:10 to 7:40 a.m. Sept. 10, 11, 18 and 19. These are interactive sessions for students and parents. Students can start brainstorming and working on their projects with guidance and support from other volunteers.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-created theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
This year's theme of "Accepting Imperfection" came from contest winner Paige Opaska, an 8th-grader from San Antonio, Texas, who said it is a reminder to herself that mistakes are welcome because they are a part of being human.
"Our flaws are as much a part of us as our strengths, so being imperfect should be perfect enough for us.”
The submission deadline is Oct. 9. Students can advance from school level to county, state and national until a final winner is announced. Categories include: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. Students submit their original works of art in one or all of the available arts categories and participate in the appropriate division for their grade: Primary (Pre-K - Grade 2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), High School (Grades 9-12), Accessible Arts* (All grades welcome).
The PTA is looking for volunteers for workshop dates in 30-minute increments. Sign up at the link here:
