Principal Message
Meadows Families,
A special thank you to our Meadows PTO and all of our parent volunteers for a very successful Scholastic Book Fair. It was a wonderful opportunity to re-energize our Meadows community on the power of reading. Now that our students have selected some new reading material, it's the perfect time to remind them to read every night and support them in their reading goals.
As a community, we all play a role in helping our students become excellent readers. At school, we will continue to provide multiple opportunities for our students to read or listen to books being read aloud each day. The teaching of reading and reading comprehension within the classroom is only part of a child's learning. The value that is given to reading at home is equally important. You can help your child to achieve their full potential by listening to them read daily (for about 20 minutes), reading regular bedtime stories and and sharing books together. Giving your child a choice over what they read is an important factor in boosting their enthusiasm, and they are more likely to be interested in books they have selected for themselves.
Your support with reading at home is critical, and only by working together can we ensure your child achieves their full potential as a reader. Thank you for your continued support and happy reading!
Ms. Waslif
Meadows Principal
Reading Comprehension Questions- Bloom's Taxonomy
After reading with your child each night, help them understand the book by asking some questions to facilitate discussion. You can ask your child about what they think might happen next. What do you think the character might do? How do you think the character will change, or how the problem might be solved? How do you think the story will end? Asking questions while reading leads to more attentive reading and the ability to read unfamiliar words as we make predictions. Check out these reading comprehension questions aligned to Bloom's Taxonomy.
