A Note From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the end of another school year, I am filled with a sense of warmth and appreciation for all of your support. I am proud to witness the remarkable growth and accomplishments of our students. I am truly grateful for the trust you have placed in our school community and for the role you have played in our students' success.
Each child has shown remarkable dedication to their learning, embracing the Montessori philosophy and flourishing academically and personally. From mastering complex math problems to expressing their creativity through art, our students have truly excelled in various areas, and their achievements are a testament to their hard work, our amazing teachers, and your unwavering support.
As we look ahead to the next school year, I am confident that our students will continue to grow and thrive, and I look forward to seeing all of the wonderful achievements they will accomplish. In the meantime, I wish you and your families a restful, rejuvenating summer filled with joy and laughter.
Thank you for making this school year a truly special one.

May 29th is Lunch on the Lawn Day
A favorite Messmore tradition is "Eat Lunch On the Lawn Day." Students bring a towel or small blanket to school that day and instead of eating in the lunchroom, we bring our lunches to the lawn on the playground.

Fostering Independence in the Montessori Classroom
One of the core principles of Montessori education is nurturing independence and self-directed learning in children. In our classrooms, you'll notice several ways we cultivate independence:
- Student-led work cycle: Children have blocks of time to choose their order of work from their agenda or work plan.
- Freedom of movement: Instead of being confined to desks, students can move about the classroom.
- Care of environment: Children take pride in caring for their classroom by cleaning and organizing materials.
- Peer teaching: Older students enjoy teaching lessons to younger classmates, reinforcing their own learning while developing leadership skills.
Employment Opportunities
A number of Utica Community Schools employment opportunities are anticipated to be available for the 2024-2025 school year. This includes but is not limited to professional positions, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, food services, school-age childcare, trades, mechanics, and other important support work. District personnel serve as excellent ambassadors for the organization and are encouraged to promote the UCS employment website to persons interested in being part of the UCS team.
Related resources include:
- The district general employment website can be found at https://uticak12.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx. Interested people must follow the described process for each position. Internal candidates are reminded to indicate their status as internal when creating their profile in the applicant system.
- In addition to the general employment website, some position postings are additionally and/or separately distributed internally within the organization to promote or foster interest from existing staff who may not be regularly reviewing the website.
