Carroll Magnet Middle School
Still Many Unknowns
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue to navigate the many unknowns that will ultimately determine our final planning for the upcoming school year. As these currently unknown variables are determined in the coming days and weeks, additional details and specific information will be communicated directly to our families.
Instructional Model
The instructional model for students who are participating in Plan B Transition and those who are enrolled in the Virtual Academy will be identical to start the school year.
- Both will offer relevant and rigorous learning opportunities for students.
- Our plan is to begin each day with a pre-recorded school leadership broadcast, followed by a school-wide Leadership class, core courses, and two elective offerings.
- Students will be required to attend each class virtually and complete all assigned tasks in the same capacity as they would in an in-person learning environment.
- All class meetings will occur before noon to provide adequate student work time, as well as protected office hours by teacher and discipline.
- Individual and small group enrichment and support will be facilitated each afternoon.
- If students in Plan B Transition return to the building, their daily schedules will be adjusted to accommodate enrollment and staffing. In that situation, elective offerings may be impacted for Plan B Transition and the Virtual Academy students.
The Virtual Academy
Four hundred sixty-five students registered for the Virtual Academy during the first round of open enrollment. This is almost fifty percent of our students. The second registration period is open now through Wednesday.
Team Communication
Throughout the school year, families will receive Week At-A-Glance (WAAG) communications from all teams of teachers every Friday in preparation for the following week's learning.
Empower Digital Learning Platform
Empower is the digital learning platform at Carroll. Parents can access instruction, assigned tasks, submitted and unsubmitted student work, teacher feedback, evaluation information, and progress reports within Empower.
Virtual Empower Parent Orientation
