EAGLE SPOTLIGHTS 🦅
Madison World Fair
Students, families and community members came together last night at our district World Fair to celebrate the rich diversity of our school community! The event highlighted and celebrated the diversity within our community, by recognizing that our differences make us stronger and unite us in love and understanding.
The hallways were lined with informational stations to explore different cultures and everyone enjoyed captivating performances in the auditorium by our MES Choir and MHS Band, along with other special guests, including Polynesian dancers and instrumental entertainment.
Everyone also participated in a variety of cultural games and interactive activities, including cardio drumming, master Chinese jump rope, and the popular piñata! Attendees sampled delicious treats from different countries and savored the flavors of the world! Our Student Artwork showcased the incredible artwork created by talented students from all buildings, beautifully representing cultures from across the globe. Thanks to all who attended and for all MDPS staff who help make this event a success every year!
CIS SVHC (Student Voices for Healthy Choices) Student Wellness Team
CIS SVHC Student Wellness Team: 1st stop Red Oaks Nature Center, 2nd stop Madison World Fair
Our Student Wellness Team is targeting healthy lifestyles through exercise and healthy food. On Tuesday, our Eagles enjoyed a guided tour of Red Oaks Nature Center by Naturalist Zach. We enjoyed the beauty of nature through a walk in the woods. The hike was not only relaxing but also very instructional! As our naturalist guide explained, what makes Red Oaks special is its oak trees and the deciduous trees whose leaves fall every year. We learned about burls, which are abnormal growths on trees. Did you know an insect could infect a tree and cause a burl? We got to explore some mindfulness as well through a sound map. Eyes closed in the woods, in a silent circle, we focused on our hearing as a way to be fully mindful of what was around us. What a great way to feel grounded and reenergized!
Students enjoyed seeing 2 deers with antlers, squirrels and a bat house! They even had a chance to gently pet Pinkie the turtle! Belal thought the field trip was amazing and enjoyed petting Pinkie, the Red Oaks mascot! Did you know one can know the gender of turtles thanks to the color of their eyes? Pinkie has brown eyes! Thank you so much to MH Red Oaks Nature Center and Oakland County Parks team for their warm welcome!
Yesterday at the Madison World Fair, our Student Wellness Team proudly presented a table tennis tournament as another healthy way to exercise and have fun! Congrats to all participants! Special thanks to Jason from CIS for organizing the tourney, and to our amazing teacher and talented table tennis player Mr. Murawski and Sergeant Wynne for playing with our youth and parents! Everybody had a lot of fun. The tournament was also a great way to explore and learn more about Olympic champions and participating countries such as China, France or the USA! Did you know France has 2 champion brothers called the Lebrun brothers?
Last but not least, a very special thank you to our community food provider Cocoyito Snacks who very generously shared their yummy and healthy Mexican specialities such as their delicious Pozole. Stop by their place at 615 E 11 Mile Rd to support our local businesses and taste their flavorful treats!
Kudos to our CIS SVHC Student Wellness Team, Angel, Josey and Erica for bringing healthy fun and food to our students & community! We're proud of you!
