Please take a moment to read the 2024-2025 Student Handbook so you and your student are aware of the policies and procedures at SCES.
September Staff and Student Indians of the Month
Congratulations to our September Students and Staff of the Month. Thank you for being a role model for what it means to be an Indian!
3rd Grade Parent Luncheon
SCES would like to invite all 3rd Grade parents to come eat with us on October 16th at 12:00 in the lunchroom. Please complete the form linked below and return it back to your homeroom teacher along with the money for the meal before October 4th. Parents may also come to eat with your student on this day even though you aren't eating with us. Outside food from other food vendors will not be allowed in the lunchroom. Parents should park on the grassy area behind the gym and may enter the building at 11:45 in front of the auditorium.
Don't forget students will be out of school for Fall Break October 7-11.
Red Ribbon Week is now...Safe Choices Week
October 14-19 will be Safe Choices Week at SCES. It's never too early to get your outfits together. We look forward to all of our students participating this week.
SCES Needs You As A Mentor
We are in the process of building our Mentor Program at Seminole County Elementary School and we would love to have your help! The goal of our Mentor Program is to increase school connectedness among identified students, as well as improve the climate and culture of our school. Through collaboration with community members, parents, and volunteers, we will be able to achieve our goal!
If you are interested in acting as a mentor for an elementary aged child, please fill out the form below.
Pumpkins for Literacy
SCES and Family Connection are excited to once again sponsor our Pumpkins for Literacy competition. Pumpkins will be due on Monday, October 14. Check out the flyer below for directions to create your pumpkin and deliver it to the school.
Good Standing
Good standing is a classification giving students certain rights and privileges. It will be based on four categories: Attendance, Tardiness, Grades, and Discipline. A student must earn Good Standing. It is a privilege not a right and will be used as a reward incentive. Good Standing will be evaluated at the end of each 9 week period.
Attendance: 1 unexcused absence during a 9 week period.
- In order for an absence to be excused, the school must receive written notice from a parent/guardian or a doctor’s office as to why the student was absent. This written notice must be received within three days of the student’s return from absence. THIS PROCEDURE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
- No more than 3 excused absences per 9 week period not to exceed 6 total in a semester. Total absences include both excused and unexcused absences.
2. Tardiness:
- A student is only allowed 3 tardies per 9 week period in order to remain in Good Standing.
3. Grades:
- Kindergarten students who successfully meet grade level standards on various measures
- Students in grades 1-5 must have an 80 or above in all classes at the end of each 9 week period.
4. Discipline:
- A student who has one major referral or 3 or more minor referrals for the 9 week period will not remain in Good Standing.
- Any out of school suspension will revoke Good Standing until the following semester.
We want all of our students to be rewarded with Good Standing each 9 weeks. Please help us to reach this goal, get your students to school and be on time. Parents, please make sure all absences are excused by the end of the nine weeks so your student will be eligible for Good Standing. Students will be rewarded on October 17th for Good Standing for the 1st 9 weeks.
Hurricane Relief
As most of you have already witnessed in pictures or maybe even in person, the devastation endured from Hurricane Helene was catastrophic for many of our neighbors, especially some of the schools in these neighborhoods. After Hurricane Michael in 2018, many of these same neighbors supported us through our struggle. We want to return the favor. We want to collect school supplies to deliver to these schools, staffs and students once they are able to return to their schools. Please share this with your neighbors, friends and families. We will collect supplies through October 18. Supplies may be delivered to homeroom teachers or the front office.
SCES Pink Out 2024
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Since so many of our faculty and staff have been affected by breast cancer, we wanted to come up with a fun way to honor them, raise awareness and donate to Seminole County Warpath on Cancer. Throughout the month of October we will be collecting coin donations in each homeroom. The grade that has the most coins collected at the end of October will receive a popsicle party. (Maybe this will bring out some healthy competition among each grade.) Also, on each Friday in the month of October we would like to "Pink Out" along with our Green and White Indian spirit attire. We will make sure you take pictures each Friday so we can show everyone how PINK we can be. Let's show everyone that has been affected with breast cancer that we love and support them by celebrating in the month of October with this FUN activity. So remember to collect your coins from Tuesday October 1-Thursday October 31. The grade with the most will win a popsicle party. Don't forget to PINK OUT on October 4, October 11, October 18 and October 25.
We would like to send a shout out to our custodians on Wednesday, October 2 for National Custodian Appreciation Day. Mr. Earl, Mr. Greg, Mr. Tony, Mrs. Vann, Mrs. Zoe, and Mrs. Danny, we appreciate and love you. Thank you for your hard work!
Important Information
SCES would also like to voice our appreciation for Olivia Buckhalter, our academic coach. Friday, October 4 is National Instructional Coach's Day. Thank you for what you do Mrs. Olivia.
Checking In/Checking Out
Please bring your Driver's License in when you are bringing a child into school late or checking him/her out early. This step has been added as a safety measure!
Be on the Lookout for Report Cards
It's hard to believe we're at the end of the first Quarter of school. Grades will be finalized on October 4 and report cards will be sent home October 17.

Attendance Policy and Procedures
Attendance is crucial for all students! Over the summer, our Attendance Team met with members of the Department of Juvenile Justice, DFCS, the Sheriff's Department, and the Superior Court to develop a policy that ensures students are in school and learning everyday!
