A Note from Your Principals
National Terrier Day
The Eli Terry community will be celebrating National Terrier Day, for the second year in a row, next Thursday, March 27th. The Student Ambassadors have organized a day of fun to honor our school mascot, Eli the Terrier!
We are asking our students/families to prepare for the day by doing three things:
- Wearing Eli Terry spirit wear or any dog themed clothing. Think of it as Terrier Thursday!
- Emailing Mrs. Hammer (jhammer@swindsor.k12.ct.us) a picture of your family's dog(s) for a special slideshow that will be created for Thursday's morning announcements!
- Considering donating something to our "flash" pet supply drive (food, treats, toys, etc.)
SBAC/NGSS Testing (Grades 3-5)
Our SBAC/NGSS testing will begin the week of April 28th and continue through May 15th. Grade 3, 4, and 5 students will participate in this testing during the first part of the day (8:45-11:45). We are asking our families to avoid scheduling any doctors appointments or other things that may cause disruptions to this part of the day.
Our teachers and students have worked SO hard this year and we want to set them up for success in showing their personal best!
First Grade Readers
Miss DelVecchio’s first graders are becoming the boss of their reading!
First graders have been practicing how to take control when they encounter tricky words. With the help of a special song, they’ve learned to stop at the first sign of trouble, use all their reading strategies to solve the unknown word, and then check their work by asking: Does it make sense? Does it look right? Does it sound right?
By taking charge of their reading, these first graders are building confidence and independence—one word at a time!
