It reinforces desirable actions, creating a cycle of success and satisfaction. By acknowledging and celebrating achievements, we hope to inspire continued effort which in turn will contribute to a more positive and productive learning environment at Norman High!

Student/ Parent Policy Guide
Student IDs and New Access Card for students
1. We will continue to hold students accountable to be wearing their 23-24 Student ID around their neck if they are INSIDE our building. Students will receive 2 of them with a lanyard at the beginning of the year in advisory and then they must pay for a new one if they come to school without one. After approximately a week, consequences will begin for not wearing an ID.
2. Students will be given an Access Card that will get them into the College and Career doors beginning at 7:25am and ending at 4:15pm each day. We have worked with our office staff to provide coverage at the College and Career doors from 7:25am until school begins. Our office personnel will make sure that students who do enter with an access card are still arriving with their ID around their neck. We will NOT require that students enter one at a time with their card and we know that groups of students will still enter all together with just one person's card. The card is simply to allow students who park outside of those doors or who go to the athletic buildings that they can get back in the building WITHOUT SOME STUDENT OPENING THE DOOR FOR THEM. We will need to retrain our students that they NEVER have to open the doors for anyone because all students should have their Access Card.
Students should have received their Access Card with their 2 ID's through Advisory during the first week of school, if you student still doesn't have an ID or Access card have them go to Student Services.
Concessions can now be ordered on an App!!

Test Prep Resources
There are several test preparation resources available to students that range from free to varying fees for participation. Concordance tables for the ACT and SAT underscore that preparing for one test is also good preparation for the other, and we recommend students take both the ACT and the SAT, as often individuals have a proclivity to score higher on one than the other....
Free Official SAT test preparation online through Khan Academy: https://www.khanacademy.org/sat/confirmed
OU's Page with ACT/SAT resources & practice questions: https://www.ou.edu/admissions/apply/freshman/act-sat-resources
ACT test preparation offered by OCCC ($20): https://www.occc.edu/coe/act/
Pioneer Library System also has a FREE resource called LearningExpress Library that is accessible with a PLS library card (which all of our students have). Here's the link to the Pioneer resources: https://pioneerlibrarysystem.org/resources

College Visits
Norman High School hosts college and military representatives hoping to visit with NHS seniors. If you would like to visit with a representative, you can find them in room 34, a glass-windowed office right across from the library outside of the Student Services office. Check-in with your attendance secretary and let them know you'd like to visit with a representative in room 34, so they can code your attendance.

Positive Energy Scholarship
Students can apply for the OG&E Positive Energy Scholarship, a four-year, $60,000 scholarship award. Since 2018, we’ve awarded 15 scholarships – totaling $900,000 – to high school seniors who commit to attending college in Oklahoma or Arkansas. Each year, we award scholarships to three graduating seniors in the OG&E service area. Mark your calendars to apply here starting December 1. Applications will be accepted through February 15, 2024.
New Sooner Orientation
New Sooner Orientation registration opens Thursday, February 1, but there are a few things students need to complete before they can schedule a NSO.
New Sooner Orientation (NSO) is the first step in the orientation process for every new student's successful transition to OU. Students will meet with their academic advisor, enroll in classes, and learn about campus resources! There will be in-person and virtual New Sooner Orientation days for students to choose from, and parents/supporters are encouraged to attend.
Before a student can schedule a New Sooner Orientation Day the following items must be completed:
In order for students to be placed into the right classes at OU during NSO, students MUST send official ACT or SAT test scores directly to OU. Without sending official test scores for verification, students will be required to complete all three course placement assessments, including math, reading, and English. However, once we have official scores, depending on the score, students may be excused from these assessments. Encourage your students to send official scores before February 1 if they have them!
